From what I've seen it's done differently at different places. I got my shot via the national system and could book both jabs at the same time, so at least 12 weeks ahead. My wife has been given a link to the local CCG system and had 4 places to choose from, one had 5 min slots for just the next day and nothing after, one had 5 min slots for up to a week ahead.

I followed a link sent by my GP. Have tried just using the NHS link. It tells me I am not eligible to book that way, and have to use gp link. This from what I can see restricts you from the possibility of booking in at a different site where there maybe more availability. So basically if you booked through nhs link it is easier for you to get the jab as you are not restricted to one vaccination site. I am only being offered the lifestyle centre at Woodhouse Park, which is clearly fully booked. I now feel at a disadvantage because of this, which is clearly not fair

And if you're not in shape and can't have a vaccination? I can't get out and 'enjoy life, hopefully with all the freedoms we are used to?'
I don't get it if you're "not in shape" and "can't have a vaccination" why would you want to go out when you are at serious risk of covid? You seem to be arguing nothing simply because you don't want the vaccine for bullshit reasons. If you are in the higher risk categories for covid there are bigger worries than carrying a vaccine passport.

I'm sure you'll get a slot eventually. My brother is in a similar situation. His GP is over the border in Rossendale so cannot use the vaccination clinic 500yds from his house (both in GM) and instead keeps getting told he has to go to a site in Darwen which is three bus rides away.

That's right. The national system allowed me to book the second jab, but had fewer (larger) vaccination sites to choose from; my wife used the local Sheffield CCG system which had more smaller local choices available but will need to book second jab later.

I don't think you understand the argument I'm making.

I'm saying that it's simply not on to say - as you have explicitly just done - that people who cannot have a vaccination for whatever reason should simply forfeit their right to enjoy their lives, by 'not going out.'

For the record I am for the vaccine, I will be having it as soon as I'm allowed. What I am not for is the government mandating who can and cannot enjoy their freedoms on the basis of receiving an ostensibly voluntary vaccine, and I am concerned about the precedent this sets.

But it’s not ‘the government’ is it. We’re talking at least today about an EU vaccine passport to allow safe travel. Those genuinely medically exempt I’m sure would be still allowed to travel. Just like for travel to other countries for years now that need vaccine proof. If you don’t want yellow fever vaccine for example then you don’t go to countries that require it. Same with this.

Of course they can. Governments can and do enforce laws for entry/permissions let alone individual companies and institutions. There are millions of buildings that won't let you in without some kind of permit/identification etc. There are countries that won't ley you in unless proof of inoculation. Some places have a dress code for entry.

Vaccine passports/proof of identity are nothing new, only the scale.

Actually, I think more of us on here said it absolutely would happen. It makes perfect sense to have them and it's been happening for years in regards to other jabs. Take cruises for example, they don't want people getting sick and potentially needing hospitalisation on board.

I use the cruise example because it just popped up on my TV that P&O have announced it.

I'm more concerned of dickheads refusing the vaccine and wishing to spread Covid around the world.
I totally agree but find it laughable that all these vaccine passports and enforcements were dismissed last year and now here we are.

Haven’t seen it mentioned, so apologies if it has, but it states now quite clearly that the national booking site is open to people 50+, they’ve officially changed it.
