You can't really blame the Government for the Kent varriant - only immediate lock down on 18th December when they discovered it's implications could have reduced the rate of growth and the reality is SAGE only recommended lock down after Christmas day. The reality is it is 50-60% more infectious and what used to work restricting the spread of Covid-19 no longer does. Prior to the Kent variant taking off we were following the same trajectory as other European states.
Czechia, Hungary, Montenegro, Belgium, Slovenia and Bosnia have now overtaken our death rate. Bulgaria and a few others will do so in a couple of weeks and Italy within 30 days. Maybe France and Spain too.
German desease specialists are also predictcting 500+ a day deaths there in a few weeks time saying in the short term the disease will beat vaccination.
It is a shit storm.

No wonder EU politicians are desperately trying to find a scapegoat.

Oh and I would gladly delay my 2nd jab in 8 weeks time to get EU vaccinations moving.
Alas the EU politicians have trashed the reputation of a vaccine resulting in an unused stockpile of 40% of all the AZ vaccines that the EU has ever had.

This is the irony. They are blaming AZ for lack of supply, but only using haif of it.

23 of the 543 cases in Scotland today are in those aged over 65.

0 of the 6 deaths reported today are people aged in the 75+ category.

My Grandkids go to school in Glasgow, on Thursday the eldest one 7 year old got sent home till after Easter because a class mate tested positive, but his younger brother same school can still go in, he's not very happy

We've had the pain for 12 months now, another 3 or 4 until all adults had at least one jab (J&J just one anyway) would have been further hardship but I think almost acceptable to a lot of people. Short term pain for long term gain.

I can’t say too much but AZ are doing this for no profit and have had their reputation tarnished by the EU. They are not happy at all and future vaccinations across Europe for adaptations will not be at the same price put it that way.

Just had my antibody results in 6 wks after 1st dose and it said no presence of antibodies detected. I'm immune suppressed so it wasn't guaranteed. It's absolute shattered me tbh. I've been stuck in the flat for 13 month because of this pandemic and another year before that because of an allergic reaction to a prescribed tablet. I've only been to hospitals in all that time. I live with someone who is also clinically extremely vulnerable so i can't just say fuck it in case i bring it back to her. I'm completely down atm, i'd put all my hopes into the vaccine. I can't do another year.

That's devastating, it makes it more important for everyone who can take the vaccine to protect people like you. All these fuckers refusing to have the vaccine and not adhering to face coverings in public places with their sham Amazon lanyards have blood on their hands, wish they could spend a day in your shoes. We need effective vaccines so I was pleased this morning to read that the vaccine taskforce is discussing a variant vaccine strategy. At least the UK medical authorities seem competent and have the ear of government. We need to stay ahead of the curve and vaccines remain the way out. Providing we maintain these then we can protect everyone in time.

There seems to be little co-ordinated action taking place to increase vaccine supply. We hear that new production sites are opening so something is going on but all the hot air is about squabbling and competition.
