Have we had the toughest lockdown?

We've had a prolonged lockdown/s but I'm not sure it's been ''tougher'' than places like Spain where it was very strict, ditto for Italy.....and in Greece didn't they have to text a Government number to get permission to leave their house?
Whereas we've had garden centres open and coffee shops selling take out drinks etc

Not that it's a competition or anything but I'm not sure we can lay claim to the toughest lockdown.
I‘m pretty sure there was a study referenced on here recently where we are categorised as having had the toughest lockdown.

Really?
What lock down?
The only thing I haven’t been able to do that I did before were travel abroad, play golf, shop at IKEA and eat in restaurants!

Fair enough if so.

It's certainly not been a walk in the park (no pun intended), but equally, to me at least, it doesn't feel quite as strict/tough as some other countries have faced, particularly this time last year when shit hit the fan.

I guess 'tough' is quite subjective although I'm sure there is a way to measure all lockdown aspects and come out with the winner/loser.

Can someone explain how the cases by specimen date for 28th March is 4,489, yet the reported on data for 28th is only 4,040 ?
Today is the 30th, reporting date = 30th, so two lots of data (29th and 30th) have fed into that total for the 28th.

In PCR tests up to a few weeks ago, barely any tests would be reported today with a specimen date of 29th and not a right lot for the 28th + 29th BUT the LFT tests are nearly instant plus I think there's an online reporting tool where you can log results if you're doing it at home (eg school kids) so we're in a new phase where the bulk of reported tests are actually withing quite a recent time frame

It's just the old specimen date Vs reported date thing, but with a new angle

been out and about today around ancoats the new islington ?? crazy amount of people on the canals mixing like nothing has happened ?? no mask bunches of people all within touching distance crazy

we will never learn and you can bet most of the uk is the same ? i will give it a week and death will be rising fast

Well, perhaps we should stay positive, I've read time and again how we're ignoring everything and people are crazy and so on, and yet cases and admissions continue to fall. Weirdly I'd almost be more worried if everyone was shut in completely and ready to venture out, at least this way there's not such a huge step change? We wait, that's all we can do.

There's a stringency index here.

I've put a few countries in for comparison.

This year, we've had pretty much the hardest lock down in the world.

Last year, I think some were worse.

Be interesting to see what it looks like in a couple of months or so if, as expected, we open up as planned and this 3rd wave continues to hit countries on the continent hard.

i think lockdown and the vaccines have a major part in the numbers coming down ? now we will see if the vaccines alone will keep it down. its crazy to see so many people just not giving a fuck about covid-19 now

i still think the vaccines are going to take more time and improvements before we all should be look at starting again and getting back to normal. but the youth can not wait for a normal life. they need to party and party hard never thinking about tomorrow or other people

i truly hope the vaccines work and everybody can lead a normal life again ? but as for covid-19 its never going away and the normal life will be 4 months of summer and some sort of life and then winter lockdown again

Interesting stuff, will give it a read, thanks.

My initial thoughts were this year we must be amongst the toughest/strictest, but combine last year with this year and there might be a few countries that pip up, certainly in Europe and the wider world too.

I don't have kids so things like the schools closing don't really come on my radar or impact me whatsoever but for sure if you've got school age children then 2021 will indeed have been very difficult along with all the other restrictions we've had and continue to face.

Hopefully we'll reap the 'benefits' of lockdown later this year.

In fairness mate, whilst I don’t disagree with about some in this country not caring for others. If the vaccine doesn’t do its job then what exactly can we do after that ? If we are having to be in lockdowns after the vaccine rollout is well past it’s finished point I foresee a lot of civil unrest. We can’t let hospitals get overrun but nor can we do what you presume will happen in the future. Somehow we’re gonna have to come up with a different idea. How the hell we would do that is beyond me but we can’t keep doing what we’re doing now in any capacity and I say that has a frontline health worker.
