GM Weekly Pop Scores after today:~

Borough / Score Today / Score 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

As ever with Pop scores going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop Score is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.



Oldham 110 / 109 UP 1 Testing positive 9.5%

Bolton 110 / 107/ UP 3 Testing positive 8.9%

Tameside 99 / 124 / Down 25 Testing positive 8.0%

Rochdale 99 / 105 / Down 6 Testing positive 9.4%

Manchester 97 / 96 / UP 1 Testing positive 9.4%

Wigan 81 / 103 / Down 22 Testing positive 8.7%

Salford 79 / 109 / Down 30 Testing positive 8.8%

Trafford 73 / 45 / UP 28 Testing positive 6.9%

Stockport 68 / 78 / Down 10 Testing positive 7.0%

Bury 66/ 98 / Down 32 Testing positive 8.9%





Stockport lost a bit of ground and Bury takes full advantage to leapfrog over to claim the lowest Weekly Pop Score ahead of both Stockport and Trafford - something it has never done before. Trafford lost another 1 on the overall Pop score to Stockport too. Four day running the gap has closed but it still very far ahead at 177.

But the lowest in Manchester is once more starting to be a scrap involving those three and Wigan which was also very much low numbers before last August. So the old order returning is a sign of normality

Weekly cases: Bury top on 127. Trafford falling back in second at 173 after weeks on top. Stockport exactly 200.

Others Bolton 318, Manchester 534, Oldham 261, Rochdale 220, Salford 203, Tameside 224, Wigan 266

Just been talking to my son in law a deputy head of a Primary School. It's scary how a year of Covid-19 has affected young children. Loads of them have forgotten how to play with each each other.
Scary stuff going forward with the amount of psychological issues that the kids will have going forwards.

I’m not too sure on that, kids are incredibly resilient and as the father of a 5 year old girl who has been home schooled for most of the last year, I don’t think has had any impact on her at all. In fact her reading, writing and maths has actually massively improved with the 1-1 teaching.

HOSPITAL DATA

A little better today with the fall resuming all be it at a slower pace and some areas more than others. Including the North West. And UK patients fall below 4000 today also which is very good news.

221 Covid admissions (28 March) following 217, 245, 283, 277, 295, 294, 279 in the week before.


PATIENTS:-

Patients down in day by 183 to 3283 v 4245 last week :- lowest since 9 October.

Peak was 34, 336 on 18 Jan (fall 31, 053 in 71 days)

Continued positive news on the metrics that matter. Less than one admission per acute hospital, and that's nearing a 25% fall in patient numbers in England in a week.

Here we go not had a slag the brits off post for a while. We have had the toughest lockdown in Europe and has been incredibly well respected by the vast vast majority. There’s now a lot of evidence that it barely transmits outside so good on them for enjoying the 2 days of sun we are getting.

Good points well made , population density clearly has an impact on spread and subsequent death toll.

I believe mask wearing while community transmission in an issue should be compulsory but not when the health officials state its confined to quarantine settings.

Be interesting if it can be established how many deaths can be prevented by appropriate mask wearing.

We should have done what Germany did in January and mandated surgical grade face masks. That’s stopped Covid in it’s tracks over there.............
Bit like lockdowns really. They work so well that some countries are about to start their fourth one.....
At least both of those interventions have now got huge amounts of published evidence for their efficacy!!

A peculiar side effect of the pandemic seems to be girls dropping their knickers in public and peeing in front of everyone. The world is more beautiful when we're not around.

Not as bad as the Bristol riots were a brace of degenerate Trostky Trollops coiled one out in front of police officers shield.

Can someone explain how the cases by specimen date for 28th March is 4,489, yet the reported on data for 28th is only 4,040 ?

How do we feel Sweden with no hard lockdowns but with border lockdowns as such have faired compared to the likes of UK , France , Spain , Italy , Hungary , Belgium to date.

I note that their deaths per millions is lower than that of the countries mentioned above.

I read an interesting report on their approach and noted that they apparently had no structure in place to combat outside PPE and social norms and basic hygiene the regular contact between the generally younger involved in nursing home , day care and home care services and their elderly residents.

over 75 per cent the deaths recorded to date have come from these settings.

Their death rates to covid or at least attributed to covid don't compare that well to their near neighbours but excess deaths do.

I read the excess deaths for 2020 was just over 5000 in Sweden, which is aboout half of the Covid number.

I've posted this a few times but Sweden can really be divided into Stockholm ad everywhere else. Stockholm accounts for about 1/3 of all deaths.
Over 80s account for 69% of all deaths. In the first wave Care homes in Stockholm took a real hammering. People tend to live at home as long as they can here, care home residents are generally quite ill and therefore vunerable. Immigrant families were hit hard too in the spring, where they live in multi-generational households. No one really understood about asymptomatic cases back then. That cost a lot of lives.

Some people think Sweden's route has been a disaster, others a boon - my life has been pretty normal throughout.

Have we had the toughest lockdown?

We've had a prolonged lockdown/s but I'm not sure it's been ''tougher'' than places like Spain where it was very strict, ditto for Italy.....and in Greece didn't they have to text a Government number to get permission to leave their house?
Whereas we've had garden centres open and coffee shops selling take out drinks etc

Not that it's a competition or anything but I'm not sure we can lay claim to the toughest lockdown.
