Lol, I've heard it all now. Governments and policy evolve, there was no precedent for this Government to learn from in the modern day. They've made mistakes but hopefully they will not repeat them in the future, their handling of the vaccination roll out is nothing short of outstanding.

I think ISIS probably "learnt" from Goebbels, you know, ethnic cleansing, intransigent views on race and religion, etc, they got what they deserved, their organisations wiped out (hopefully) and death to their leaders.
No clue

Scotland data:

0 deaths - was 0 last week

248 cases - was 352 last week

2.5% positivity - was 3,2% last week

Scotland vaccination data:

2, 565, 280 first doses - 11, 443 today - was 17, 948 yesterday & 24, 123 last week

456, 374 second doses - 5317 today - 16, 116 yesterday & 14, 752 last week

As with Wales big falls in numbers understandably.

Anyone willing to comment knowledgeably on Ferguson's claim that the AZ vaccine is vulnerable to the South African variant and puts the UK recovery at risk?
I am no expert but the way I understand it is you can become ill but still have protection against becoming severely ill or dying unless this has changed recently.

Thanks for the replies on AZ and South African variant and the risk factor Ferguson was referring to.

England 15 hospital deaths: By region

5 NE & Yorkshire. 3 South East, 2 each in London, Midlands and North West and 1 East

South West had zero.

The NW ones were both in Liverpool and the London ones were both in Epsom. These were the only trusts not just 1.

I think it's several factors, including:
  • lower prevention of the SA variant causing up to moderate illness
  • prevalence of the SA variant in Europe, when it isn't known much here, but could be
I think he is then viewing it as a new factor that the UK hasn't had to combat yet. Positive test numbers could escalate if it gets a foothold. If vaccinations aren't being given to anyone with a recent positive test, it would then risk a slowdown in vaccinations.
