Hospital data from England though IS good news. Falls continue. Though not large actually more than last Tuesday.

Patients down 23 to 921. (Last week it was 3) Ventilators down 9 to 126 (last week it was 6)

Will do full report later but no region fell by more than a handful yet nobody went up and only the SW increased in ventilator numbers (by 1).

North West down to 159 patients and 15 ventilators and despite the rise in cases has NOT been seeing any evidence in people getting sick enough to be hospitalised as it has fallen in patient numbers now every one of the last seven days. From 203 to 159. And ventilators most days from 24 to 15.

That is a good week in direct contrast to the cases going up.

Vaccinated, I guess?
Depends which way you jump.

My wife was jabbed with either the vaccine or a placebo, when she had the NHS offer she contacted them and was asked to stay 'blinded' but she refused, turned out she'd had the vaccine but if you stay with them they'll not automatically tell you until the trial is fully completed.

*Edit-Scratch most of that I've just seen the post above.

I am vaccinated with Novavax now. I’ve stayed blinded but was given whatever I didn’t have in October, in April. I don’t know which was which, but I’m vaccinated. That’s the case for all those stayed blinded, if they wish. They were offered the vaccine to keep them on the trial. So most will now have had 4 jabs in total. 2 placebos, 2 Novavax. I think they will advice against having the NHS one as well, but it depends whether having an licensed vaccine is essentially worthless.

Yeah she was told not to double up, she had the real stuff at the start, you'll only have 4 jabs if you had salt & water in the first 2.

Nicola Sturgeon gave a briefing on new restriction easing this lunchtime and mentioned a new variant of concern in Scotland under study. Small numbers found in a cluster in the Highlands.

She was unable to supply the daily numbers as an 'IT glitch' has delayed them today.

Just in the off chance, do you happen to know if she meant a variant new to Scotland (e.g. Indian?) or something brand new altogether which is under investigation?

Well yes. With an unregulated vaccine. It’s trial results are good, and I’m not worried about it’s safety. Just wondering if it will ever count on a vaccine passport. I’m not too bothered for me. But my 19 year old is on the same trial. I know the risk with a trial is that it may not go the whole way. But we were told in March that it would, and those of us who had been given the placebo were given the vaccine.

Ah, hadn't thought about the vaccine passport bit. Could be awkward that.

Think she meant brand new. There are very few cases and it is still under study.

Was only half listening as struggling with updates and edits for a publisher on one of my books as they seem to assume I know modern technology like they do!

No problem, thanks again. Edit, as it happens it just came up on my BBC feed.

A new variant of Covid-19 has been detected affecting a small cluster of cases in Grantown-on-Spey in the Highlands.

NHS Highland said it was a variant under investigation (VUI) and was one of a number of strains different from the main ones circulating in the UK.

The health board is making asymptomatic testing - tests for people without symptoms - available in Grantown.
