I was ill same time as my dad had it so it’s pretty certain I did to as we spent time together and had same symptoms only he had difficulty breathing I didn’t. Head hurt, when walking the dog it keel over and cough for ages, couldn’t smell bleach when I cleaned the house, back and neck muscles hurt a bit too and I was shattered. Had a few whiskeys before bed each which helped me sleep, don’t advise for everyone....
Hope both you & your dad mend up soon mate.
How long did/have you had it btw?

Good luck mate. Hopefully you've missed it, but that sounds similar so just be careful.

Doing ok thanks, things changing daily as I say earlier re the sense of taste/smell suddenly disappearing like a flick of a switch. Taking nothing for granted as I'm sure Kaz and plenty others can testify that I could think I'm fine but then suddenly worsen, at this stage I count myself very lucky to come under the mild category though I'm only on day 5 of symptoms.
Think I’m probably day 3/4 symptoms wise (just thought I had a cold at the weekend).
Definitely not just a cold so either heavy cold AND flu or it is indeed Covid.
Hope you recuperate soon mate - you’re a runner right? I was planning a bleeding half marathon cobweb blaster this week ffs...

I was over the worst of it after 7 days but felt bad for two weeks. Dad was a bit longer my mum and sister tried to get him to hospital but he refused, he didn’t think he’d make it out if he went there and thankfully it looks like he made the best decision for him and us :-)

Most of those under 55 in hospital will have underlying conditions so will be done in the 2nd part of phase 1
People with underlying health conditions are well down the list. I’m not even sure they qualify in the top 10.

They’re doing “Clinically Extremely Vulnerable” people of varying ages in the list as well as care home workers, NHS staff etc. CEV people are those who have cancer and recently had a transplant.

Underlying health conditions can be things like a large amount of undetected visceral fat around the organs on a person you wouldn’t necessarily think of as fat.

OTHER WATCH AREAS

BLACKBURN clocked up 145 cases and a Pop score rise of 97 to take it into the 9000 club at 9043.

But it was beaten there by Merthyr Tydfil which has risen up and up over past few weeks and is now the place with the highest Pop in the UK at 9792. It will this week become the first UK place to enter the TEN THOUSAND club! I would not have bet money on that last Summer.

In simple terms remember this means almost 10% of the population have definitely had the virus as they tested positive. The true number will be well above that because many will not have been tested. So this is the minimum figure on route to herd immunity in this very infected valley community.

BURNLEY is not far behind Blackburn and another of the big drivers of the problems in the NW now even the government noticing the NW is the new problem area as things seem to be going down in the south. It now has a much bigger pop score than Oldham which used to be neck and neck with Blackburn but unlike East Lancashire that side of GM (along with Rochdale) has turned it round big time. Burnley with a Pop of 8604 is over 900 ahead of Oldham now.

ON MERSEYSIDE - LIVERPOOL was up again to 700 cases. That rose its Pop Score by 140. It has a Weekly Pop score of 1062 which is way above any in GM and rivalling the areas in Kent which are falling. Its Pop is now 7175 and only 69 behind Manchester after never having been ahead of it. Will almost certainly pass Manchester in the nest few days.

WIRRAL was also up again from 305 to 435 cases - more than Manchester. It's Pop rose by 134. With a weekly Pop of 984.

KNOWSLEY is even worse and pushing for top spot in UK right now. For a tiny borough it entered the 8000 club at 8098 - something no GM borough has yet achieved. It was really high in the autumn wave and the first place in the UK to enter the lower 1000s but Merseyside's autumn wave collapsed before GMs and it went back to its usual tiny numbers. But since Christmas it has gone spiralling upwards like much of Merseyside and I have had to start tracking it again. On 21 Dec it had a weekly case count of 234 and a weekly Pop of 155. By 28 Dec that was 382 cases and a Pop of 253. Then 1 Jan it was 903 cases and its weekly Pop was up to 599.

Here are Knowsley's days since:- weekly cases/ weekly Pop:- 1202 - 797 / 1401 - 929 / 1689 - 1120 / 1835 - 1216 / 1908 / 12 65 and 2028 cases and a weekly Pop 1344.

The above are DAILY steps up - doubling in 6 days.

You can see why Merseyside and Knowsley especially has been a big factor in driving the North West into the most concerning region right now.

GM is going up but modestly compared to what has happened on Merseyside driven by the new variant. And that new variant was seeded across the North West by the utterly foreseeable way that the tiers really act as sieves.

So GM could easily follow if lockdown is not strictly adhered to as this new strain is incredibly infectious.

If someone in a family gets it then most of them will.

You might think you are young and fit and will be fine but by the time you even know you have it you could have infected half a dozen others - friends or family or someone you just met up with - and if only one of them is not young and fit you may indirectly kill them.

THAT is the message more people need to understand out there.

Yep, well kinda lol, short distances up to about 5 miles usually but do it fairly regularly so keep myself reasonably fit. Hopefully this will serve to benefit in some way. The way I see it, is if there's so little of the flu and other colds going about due to lockdown and the majority of people taking care hygiene wise, there was a good chance if I had anything it was Covid and without giving you the fear I'd possibly suggest the same thing with you? Either way, at least you've been tested so you'll know soon.

Keep us posted on your results and how you're getting on mate, take it easy.

Thanks for that. Think and hope we will all feel a bit more positive at the end of Jan if it is approaching maybe ten million and we are seeing a significant fall in cases and hopefully deaths too by then. Have to be honest it’s getting me seriously down now.

Stay focused pal. You've kept many heads up in this thread and constantly been posting positively about things. We are already nearly Mid January mate, the time since NYE again and we will be at the end of Jan almost hovering around 10 million. Also factor in the millions that have already had it. Just think of it this way. 7 weeks till the end of Feb and we'll be knocking on the door of 20 million with another 6 or 7 million already having had it.

Keep safe. Keep doing what you're doing. We're doing okay. Not amazingly or fantastically but okay, and looking round Europe and further a field I'll take that.

Had to go and get my first covid test today. A small room with about 7 or 8 people queuing a couple of meters apart. Spluttering and coughing etc.

I felt more at risk in there than anywhere else I've been for 11 months!

cheers mate I appreciate that. Coped pretty well but just have a fear that something could happen to my old man and i won’t enjoy my last years with him! Your words are bang on though. I tell you what I will appreciate life when we get back to normal.

I woke up this morning with a banging head and its been throbbing all day.

Even my cheek bones and ears are hurting!

Other than that I feel absolutely fine. Had my test this morning. Gulp! Fingers crossed I've just got a bit of a head cold.

Is their any indication when he might be eligible for the vaccine? Mine is in his 70s and is looking like 2nd week of Feb. Its one of those things where we have to put our faith in the process and hope beyond hope they will be okay.

I'm with you on that. As soon as I can I'm hiking and climbing every mountain these Isles have to offer then start on Europe. Life is far too short to work yourself into the ground. Make a list of all the things you are going to do when the situation allows for it. Just try and find little positives to get you out of this funk you're in or it'll swallow you up pal

GM Weekly Pop Scores over past 7 days

Number is cases per 100,000 population. Lower the better. Going down is good. Going up bad as means rising cases per expected in past week. The more up the worse. The more down or lower up the better.

The table starts with the 'best' - as in lowest Weekly Pop. Lower numbers are best.

BOROUGH // POP TODAY // POP 7 DAYS AGO // Up/Down in 7 days BY

TAMESIDE 400 // 288 // Up 112

BOLTON 401 // 296 // Up 105

OLDHAM 405 // 291 // Up 114

STOCKPORT 434 // 375 // Up 59

ROCHDALE 451 // 302 // Up 149

SALFORD 484 // 321 // Up 163

WIGAN 493 // 405 // Up 88

TRAFFORD 499 // 405 // Up 94

BURY 503 // 357 // Up 146

MANCHESTER 514 // 331 // Up 183

As you can see Manchester and Salford had the worst weeks rising a lot in the 7 days. Stockport surprisingly had the best week as its pop scores have been modest and not gone up by big numbers any day. Others have had at least one huge day where many tested positive. And for some small boroughs just a few extra cases can up the score a lot. Whereas you need rather big numbers to up the more populated boroughs by as much.

This is why the government use the Pop Score as a measure of which places are in the most trouble.

GM is increasing as these show but nothing like as much as Merseyside has been doing.

Which is why for now the GM contribution to the NW total each day is below 30% rather than over 50% as it was in October when Merseyside was low and GM high.

The reverse is true now.

I just went to Tesco and hardly anyone was distancing at the checkouts. The woman behind me was getting close and I almost told her to fuck off out of my way but what’s the point. Loads without masks or masks pulled down
It is strange how experiences differ - where I live the situation feels like the opposite.

I shop mainly in Morrisons - but it is the same in all the other supermarkets - and I cannot recall seeing someone without a mask for ages and people all step back and out of the way to avoid crowding.

Here it seems to have become the natural way to do things
