Worry more about vaccine uptake.

We can control the epidemic with vaccines but we can't eliminate it unless there is widespread uptake of vaccines. The picture around the globe is highly patchy.

Of the strong opinion that they should move through those who want it very quickly. Offer it once, if they don't get back, move on, even if it means moving down through the categories. Then offer those again a month later or so to see if their nerves have settled.

Thatll do me

ive loads going on at the mo and i could do with nothing more than a pint and chat with a pal
Not too much to desire in life is it

The two specific things you've asked about, pubs and holidays, just to comment... Devi Sridhar has been very clear in separating holiday's from a long list of other 'normal' things. I know she's only an advisor, so the buck won't lie with her, but her opinion is one which I agree with despite how much I love 'normal' family holiday's. But she says that should be the absolute last thing to return to normal, she advocates much more for schools, pubs, sport, shops, and travel within your own country until such time this is under control globally. I think its because of the risk of importing new strains and the potential damage that could cause.

Frankly I absolutely love holidays but can completely go along with what she's saying. If everything in life was normal EXCEPT from being able to go abroad on holiday for a year or 2, I could happily live with that.

She should count herself lucky that she's had her first. My dad lives in Marple so not a million miles away from Hazel Grove. He's 81 and has underlying health conditions, COPD being one, and as of last weekend he hadn't had his first jab yet, let alone notification of when it will be. In fact, as of last weekend he was saying that to his knowledge despite having quite a large elderly population nobody in Marple had received a jab as they were still waiting for supplies to be delivered, but that was going to happen this week.
I hope it works out for him soon.
There are areas like Marple all around the country and yet l have no idea how they allocate to each Health Authority. Some people on tv and radio seem to have 'jumped' your dad In some places. I think it's another thing that's left vague.

Me too. Cancelled greece last year (sisters wedding) and rebooked for this. If it has to be shoved onto 2022, fine. But id like to think a week in dorset/cornwall/abersoch/levenshulme is on the cards ;)

COPD for some reason isn't on the shielding list...

Thanks. I'm sure he's not far off getting it but with so many cases and this far more infectious variant knocking about I'm as nervous about him catching it as I was last spring when we went into the first lockdown so when he does get his vaccination date I'll be counting down the days and counting them up afterwards towards the time that it starts to become effective

Was trying to work out why I felt really leaden, more ‘resistance to gravitythan usual but at the same time not feeling particularly breathless,

I’m sure it’s been mentioned more than a few times on here already:

https://casereports.bmj.com/content/13/9/e237207

dosing up on ibuprofen & paracetamol to alleviate the throat infection which seems like is dominating the illness rather than anything else.

Try not to cough as it’s so painful but it’s anything but persistent.

Possibly a combination of experiencing this and the effects of it on ones well-being (as is the case of all illnesses) but I’m getting even more riled by the anti vaxxers/anti-maskers/plandemics.
I’m having to take myself out of family chat groups as I struggle to hold back.
There’s literally no way of getting through to them.
Amazed at the way a proportion of this country have been radicalised by some weird cult movement in the USA.

My parents both in their mid eighties, he has dementia and has had heart problems, she is his carer. Not heard anything yet re vaccination.
I've told them to sit tight and be patient, but I am starting to worry they might have been missed.

Hope not and parents get sorted soon, but that has been a worry of mine about people being missed.

In some areas, vaccinations are going to take place in vulnerable people’s homes from next week. Fingers crossed this will happen with your parents.

I heard this on Radio 5 Live yesterday.

My perfect "holiday" would be a train trip from Sheffield to Piccadilly and pint in pretty much any Manc pub with my lad, who'd hopefully be back cutting hair at Maclures by then. No interest at all in getting back on a plane.

Yeah, me too. Had 3 holidays cancelled last year that have been re-booked for this year but if they fall by the wayside again and have to be shoved back another 12 months or so then so be it. Like you say, if we get other "normalities" back in the meantime then most of us will take that. The point that Devi Sridhar made about getting it under control globally is bang on IMO - we could be in a situation where it's under control in the UK before most other countries due to the speed of the vaccination process so if things have opened up here then let's just stick to doing things over here until such a time as other countries have gotten on top of it.

Really??
Third lockdown and I've had the letter every time saying I'm clinically extremely vulnerable due to COPD.

Hmm, wonder if this is done by trust or someting. My folks live down south, my Dad was told to shield every time with heart issues but my Mum who has COPD hasn't been told to shield and has even had 3/4 COPD specialist check ups since. and a mate of mine's other half has it and she was never told to Shield ( in Macclesfield ).

Edit: this looks like the GPs are messing up. COPD clearly listed as High risk. Better tell my Mum to check it out.

I still find it gobsmacking that foreign travel in/out for anything other than emergency is allowed still. It should have been the 1st thing done back in Feb - ironic really as the same people who are anti-lockdown are also (generally) the ones who want more done to protect our borders...

If it has to be allowed, then 14 (or whatever) day quarantine (paid for by the traveller at a reasonable rate) should be enforced - the Hotel business would cry out for that business (NZ hotel owners IIRC were really happy to have that business).

You choose to fly out/in, you take responsibility for the consequences.
You get off the plane, you are taken directly to the Hotel.
You break out, you get fined/jailed/noflylist.
