I'm not sure that getting one variant of it is providing much immunity from the next one. I know it's a small sample size (one person) but since my son had his first jab six weeks ago he's caught it twice. Barely noticed it the first time but had a positive test result. After 3 weeks clear he's just caught it again along with three of his mates and this time I assume it's the delta variant. Feels a lot rougher this time, thankfully still not serious but it seems to illustrate the point that letting it rip might not provide the benefits you might think. He's due his second jab in a couple of weeks so hopefully that will protect him a bit more, but it seems a single jab does little to prevent you catching the latest variants but hopefully mitigates the effects. It certainly does. More importantly we are clearly getting to the point where we NEED TO let it rip through our schools to give our kids immunity to fight the next variant and the variants after that.
If you haven't already noticed, With each new variant, the virus is becoming more infectious with worse symptoms for younger and younger age cohorts.
Currently the vast majority of children will barely get ill, we need to make sure that continues to be the case and vaccinating kids with new vaccines that haven't been used for a long time isn't really the world' greatest idea.
