Also, how fast to remove restrictions.

We've decided to ditch everything all at once, which heightens risks of a spike.

And whether to vaccinate teenagers, which could make a game-changing difference to Authumn.
But we’re not ditching everything all at once are we? This is step 4 of 4 and has been done gradually since end of March. FWIW I think mask wearing should still be mandatory in enclosed public spaces but I think most people will keep wearing them for the foreseeable anyhow (those who don’t won’t have been doing already). Most people have been doing what they want for weeks now in terms of meeting up etc so will be interesting to see how much of a spike there really is from next week. Hopefully not too much especially as schools break up in a fortnight. We must be getting somewhere close to ‘herd/hybrid’ immunity with current vaccination/infection levels surely?

Problem is and it was mentioned by Chris Whitty last night you will get an exit wave whenever you finally release the restrictions. Question is it better to do it now in summer or in a couple of months when more are double jabbed but just as we’re going into winter and flu/respiratory disease season?

So, start relaxing but do it in stages or keep some measures in place like masks on public transport. No need for an all or nothing approach.

I go out, go to shops, went to the optician yesterday, usual stuff, all I want is to know places that I visit or shop are sensible and aren't rammed full of unmasked people breathing in my face.

Taking sensible precautions has nothing to do with ‘freedom’. It’s like wearing a seatbelt or not drinking bleach. Kind of fucking obvious.

I would have hoped so, but the continued rise strongly suggests otherwise, and all expert opinion (see modelling) says almost certainly not. But no-one knows for sure.

We’ve been relaxing measures in stages since March. This is step 4. I agree mask wearing in public places should remain but other than that….

I think hesitancy is understandable and some people are more hesitant than others. I suspect many who are hesitant and not had the jabs yet will ultimately get it once they see people don’t have side effects from having it. I’d also draw a line under it, jabs are free until such a date to try and encourage the stragglers.

But for me hesitancy is not the same as those who are vehemently opposed, the so called anti vaxxers. Ultimately we will see that they have some sort of impact in their lives to that decision; be it in their liberty (travelling for example) or job opportunities etc. Maybe even in state benefits if they are unable to work in certain sectors due to not being vaccinated - I suspect existing legislation will allow this. You want the benefits of this society? Then you play the game.
If you're still hesitant at this point, I'm sorry but you're a fucking dimwit.

Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Anyone with an ounce of analytical intelligence knows this, and I'm sick of people making excuses for thick, gullible twats who won't do their civil duty and get a jab.

A couple of generations ago we were asking kids to go and get blown up in the trenches for the greater good of free society. Now we're asking people to nip to the chemist and get a safe, free vaccine.

The "oooh I don't know if I'm having it, I've seen this thing on YouTube that says..." brigade can fuck the fuck off. I've got zero sympathy for them.

Edit - not having a go at you of course ;). By "you're a fucking dimwit" I was referring to the anti vaxxers...!

I disagree. This country should not be pandering to people who won’t take the vaccine for no reason other than their own unfounded fears.

Fuck them. Don’t take a jab? Your choice, your problem. And if that upsets their sensitivities then tough luck.

We have all sorts of actions that are frowned upon by society, drink driving, driving whilst under influence of drugs, speeding to name a few - you know selfish cunts that put other folk at risk. Why should anti vaxxers get a free pass?
Absolutely bang on.

If the modelling community oveer egg the pudding for a 3rd time in 5 months they will be ignored in the future.
Much like the boy crying wolf.
This will be disastrous for public perception of science based methods.
From my initial look at the numbers they appear to have done it again. Antibody study numbers appear to have been totally ignored.
