Rag mate came back from Majorca last Sunday, negative test there on Saturday, he watched the final sat next to two Army lads in his local in Ashton on Sunday, had his mandatory test in the UK on Tuesday, informed today he's tested positive. Lad who works with me was in the same pub, no ping from T & T yet and pub is still open, I'm that confused I'm not sure what's supposed to happen.

Is it any wonder people are negative?

Square this one for us....We have just recorded the highest daily infection figures in the world. In 4 days time we will have the least amount of covid restrictions in the world, and you are wondering why people are being negative and a little apprehensive?

So what, cases mean little when comparing to other countries, most of which have had higher death numbers than is ever well for months. The number of people dying with it that are catching it is about 0.1%, based on that we should be opening up. Added to the fact infection gives better immunity than vaccines, now is the best time to open to hopefully build that immunity through high infection.

I think a place only has to shut down when a staff member gets it.

could be wrong tho.

It depends on your interpretation of being very ill, some people have a lower threshold of how poorly they feel, it's not a pop at you btw
All five of us have the virus so I can give a fairly good description of how ill it makes you. I'd describe it as worse than a heavy cold but not as bad as influenza. It's not pleasant and we are nowhere near OK for work/school but none of us are anywhere near to hospitalisation. The family ages are me (51), my wife (47), both healthy and 2xjabbed. Kids are 15,13 and 13.

It's a fucking strange illness I must say. The overriding symptom is probably a continual headache which I've had for well over a week. I burnt the roof of my mouth a fortnight ago and it turned into a big ulcer which hasnt gone. Retrospectively I think that was the very first symptom. My son also has ulcers on his tongue and around his mouth. I tweaked two muscles in my wrists in the gym and the aching won't go away. It's almost like it attacks the weak points in your body. We are all coughing and sneezing and struggling to sleep.

Daughter just been told to self isolate, this comes 3 days after the end of the last self isolation.

Thats 6th form over for this term

Frustraton is an under statement.

honestly. How many more f*cking times! It’s not about the deaths - it’s about hospitalisations and ICU units being overburdened… increasing hospitalisations is the concern !

So based on this, we will not move forward from the current point we are at with the current mindset?

Surely the mindset should be, we can't stop you getting it, all we can do is reduce the virus's effects, so open up and move on with our lives?
Which is part of what we are doing, The other main reason being it is better to risk the inevitable increase in numbers in mid Summer than in mid Winter.

They hope - not necessarily believe - this will be the last major wave and it will rip mostly through those choosing not to be vaccinated at all now. They have the most desire to open up and the least desire to get us where we need to be by the only other method - vaccines.

So - having vaccinated as many of the most vulnerable as we can - now is the best time to say to the rest - if you want to live as normal go do it but we have warned there might be consequences if you are not careful.

Not sure really what other option there was if we are looking towards any kind of maximum antibody level in a free democratic society as a way if not out then at least forward.

As you cannot force the stubborn remainder to change tack on vaccines. So catching it is the likely consequence for most of them. They think they can handle it, They are hopefully right, If not it was their choice.

Bloke at work returned on Tuesday after 10 days self isolation yesterday was pinged on track and trace and is now self isolating for another 10 days.

So have we made any crazy plans for this Mad Monday coming..after much thought it'll be a throw away bbq-bottle of vino in the garden and watch the carnage unfold, I'm sure the muen will have their roving reporters all around town!
Tbh I think it'll be business as usual. Apart from being able to get a drink at the bar rather than piss about trying to grab a waiters attention or download one of 10,000 different bar ordering apps, nothing is really changing. Lots of places encouraging people to use masks and keeping distanced tables etc.

Music venues are a major thing but due to the fluffy guidance and back and forth from the government, nobody is really geared up to open properly for full shows and July is usually a quiet period anyway (I work in the sector).

Nightclubs are another thing entirely of course...and some of those places just don't give a shit and want to make some much missed cash, which is a bit of a concern I must say.

3,700 in hospital yesterday in the whole UK, nowhere near overwhelmed. At the end of the day the people making the decisions no a lot more than you or I and decided the best thing is to open up. I trust the experts over you or the others wanting ongoing restrictions forever.
