But 4/6/8 abreast is wrong whether we’re in a pandemic or not when anyone is trying to get past, it’s just bad manners.
That trivial example is a symbol for the reason, we (western countries) are failing to handle the pandemic in a better way and are wondering why...

Our individual freedom has reduced awareness, politeness, respect.
Our brains are now brought up and structured that way. We have a much bigger problem in global warming round the corner, but it (still) doesn't hurt us hard enough to react appropriately. The pandemic does but still we don't do what we should do...

I can only speak for Germany, but I guess it's so fundamental that it should be true for UK as well:

our political measures like lockdowns do not have enough effect as most of us citizens are not even able to follow basic rules like keeping distance and wearing the mask in dense situations.

Reasons are: we are unaware of ourselves. Look around, how many people do REALLY keep the right distance? Not many.

We are not used to it. We have to change our behaviour, but how can we do that if we are unaware most of the time? How often e.g. do we touch our face unnoticed?

People don't react anymore if leaders say "keep distance". We would have to answer the question "How can we effectively address the people to do what's necessary?" Talking obviously doesn't work.

I guess, change of behaviour needs too much time which we don't have. I dare not think about the coming weeks in Germany (which is in panic of the more infectious strains) and London, at least.

The race of vaccination versus rising new cases has to be quite perfect, but rarely blue sky scenarios come true, so please take care all of you! Really do.

I liked your post but I'm going to take issue with this. We were much better at this stuff last Spring.

That is pretty strong evidence against the argument that we have been stuck this way since childhood!

What you are describing is a lack of mindfulness.

Mindful, aware of the body, aware of the self, aware of the other, aware of the environment.

This stuff is learned in seconds flat. It's all in there from childhood when we had to be aware in order to learn.

We still have mirror neurons to burn!

People are more depressed and fatalistic this time around. For many, it feels pointless.

That is what we need to tackle. I do not believe our leaders are fit for this job.

Mindfulness? They want you to forget their mistake, a criticism. To stop associating them with a particular thing, or a negative emotion you have about things. This is described as 'dissociation'. Feel sort of comfortable. Forgetful. Ready to move on because this is scary. Reassurance is sort of sketchy. And we're all in the habit of looking for something else to distract us as a way of coping. Another post. Another link. Another person. Another job. And that's in the exact opposite direction to being 'mindful'.

I'd also have to say, mindfulness is naturally much higher in spring than the dead of winter. Ambition, new ideas and ways of doing and thinking occur naturally when the sun returns. Whereas, when the days are shortest, skies are dark, and the weather is cold, it is natural to find people move around sleepily, ignoring their environment.

Dutch unlikely to ease restrictions as numbers still show no downward trajectory. Indeed, the authorities may introduce curfews.

I’m a bit bemused by quite a lot of comments on here yesterday, I’ve driven daily through Stockport into Cheshire and to Liverpool, then to Bolton, Rochdale and loop twice a day, it’s very quiet out there compared to pre lockdown.
Shutters down everywhere.
At every point of arrival, there is no entry and contact is phone only. Can’t even use toilets.
On my way home I call in supermarkets daily and mask wearing is everywhere, trolleys getting sanitised and their not busy.
I’m out there in Cheshire Merseyside and Lancashire back to GM daily, trust me it’s honestly really quiet.

Really?

So, on a decent width path, which if you’ve been to Heaton Park you’ll know they are wide and that’s why I run there, then you’ve got a group of for example 6/8 people who shouldn’t even all be out together anyway, and they are chinwagging whilst covering the whole width of path, you really think that I should run into some shit/mud off the path rather than them make an effort to create a small gap to the side?

Fucking lol, you clown. I’ve got as much right to be on that path as they have.
Have you travelled outside your area for the run, if so you have no right to run there.

Town was definitely busier this time around than last time. On a separate note I notice the northern premier league football season is about to get declared null and void.

Sounds like they’re going to try tighten restrictions, obviously realise current situation isn’t going to be enough.
