Let me quote you from the recent modelling summary.
Uncertainty means it will not be possible to project which of these scenarios will likely occur nor can the peak’s timing be predicted until it has passed.
Far from making a prediction which was wrong, they explicitly said uncertainty was so high, no prediction could be made.
What the modeling showed was that further significant rises were plausible. That wasn't wrong, and may even get happen.
