ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS

62 with 14 from North West. - last week 79 with 11 NW and week before 54 with 17 NW.

NW deaths still staying high sadly but the rise of just 8 in two weeks and a fall of 17 on last week on what is often the second highest day of the week with catch ups is actually very encouraging.

I am sure the BBC will report it in proper context as they did last night on News at Ten - NOT!

They did exactly what I said they would this time yesterday in this data post - give the 12 March date when yesterdays total was last exceeded with ZERO context on that number. Nor even their usual mention of Tuesday always seeing a high number after weekend catch up when registration offices are closed.

Numbers are just used to sell agendas or stories if they come without context. Not like the Tuesday high is a new thing. It has happened every week for 18 months. And even slips back a day to Wednesday on bank holiday weekends as Mondays then have closures too.

All the football leagues up and running this weekend..Will be interesting to see the numbers in the coming weeks ?
Should be ok hopefully, most of the people who died from Covid were over 85 I think and many from care homes, these aren’t really people who attend football and those who may be vulnerable have now been vaccinated
I know some who are vaccinated will still get Covid and die but it shouldn’t get to worrying numbers

fingers crossed

NORTHERN IRELAND DATA

3 deaths - was 1 last week

1467 cases - was 1040 last week

9.4% positivity - was 8.7% last week

9230 weekly cases total - was 9063 yesterday & 7804 last week

117 CARE HOME OUTBREAKS - UP 12 ON YESTEDAY & LAST WEEK

321 patients - up 10 on yesterday - was 295 last week

31 ventilated - down 1 on yesterday - was 29 last week

56 aged under 60 died in the past week in England hospitals alone. Around 18%.

7 in the last 48 hours were under 40.

So whilst - yes - what you say is true and the number of younger deaths are indeed relatively low it is proportionately higher than you night think and than they were.

And the reason why begins with a V.

Sorry I don’t follow, are you saying we are getting more deaths now in younger people when over half the population are double vaccinated than before when nobody was vaccinated ?

apologies if I’ve read it wrong

No you were not saying anything wrong.

It is just that because a higher percentage of older people are double jabbed the protection the vaccine gives to them is saving lots of the many deaths from that category and whilst there always were and still are fewer deaths in younger age groups the numbers are still low but proportionately higher because a smaller number of them are doubled jabbed.

The younger to older trajectory is much the same but the gap between young and old is much narrower because of these factors which shifts a bit the burden of the deaths towards the younger ages. But almost certainly never will tilt it to the majority as Covid kills through underlying conditions mainly that are always going to be more prevalent the older you get.

Just noting that many younger people may not realise their risk without the vaccine is as a percentage of those who will die now higher than it was six months ago because the vaccines are proving so successful.

Though it is still pretty low.

makes sense thanks

So the TWO nation total deaths today (no Wales data) is 75

Last week it was 93 without Wales and 97 with Wales - that became 119 last week on all settings.

And the TWO nation cases total today (no Wales) is 2965

Last week it was 2311 and Wales added 608 onto that.

So looks like it is up either way today as already higher with no Wales.

Last Wednesday UK cases rose substantially from Tuesday (21, 691) to Wednesday (29, 312)

It will be a surprise if they are not up a bit today from yesterdays 23, 510 - even if Wales is still missing.

Deaths though hopefully look like they might be below the 119 last week,
