Coronavirus (2021) thread

Was out in town last night for a friend's birthday, just 4 of us, and was very uncomfortable. First time I've been out in the centre at night since 2019. Was fine at the little pop up bar we started at as was outside and just a few tables, but as we headed towards the main roads it was pretty much a normal Saturday, with mainly 30 and under hugging, drinking, singing and copping off as you'd expect pre covid.

Seven Brothers in particular was heaving and like sardines. Personally I'm not comfortable with that and so we bypassed it all.

Whilst all of this is now personal choice and I'm not going to judge others individually, I was surprised by the complete lack of consideration for the virus and others, on display. I just don't get that way of thinking, be it conspiracy suspicions or blasé way of life.

My personal choice is that I want to do everything to limit catching or spreading the virus, even if I may get it mild because I'm double jabbed I'd drill rather not have it, and I may pass it on to someone less fortunate.

Town was a mistake, staying clear for the foreseeable.

Human nature, certainly in this country anyway. No one wearing a mask at City yesterday.

Town has been like that for months - pretty much back to normal for ages. I live in Ancoats and have commented a few times that the difference in perception between those that live out in the burbs and those of us in town who are just getting on with life is quite noticeable.

Think I saw 12 people wearing a mask at yesterday’s game.

Must admit I didn't wear a mask whilst watching the game, however, I did wear one whilst entering the stadium, when I popped up to the concourse at half time and at full time when walking down Joe Mercer Way because of the close proximity of so many people.

Sadly haven't a clue.

Hoping it's just a bounce as everything reopens, and settles before too long. Probably got another few weeks of growth before that happens with schools only just back though.

My best guess is just a mixture of everything really. Football matches, nightclubs, increased socialising in general, people taking tests rather than isolating after being named as a close contact probably another factor to consider.

What I'm absolutely certain of is that regardless of what's actually causing it, schools will be getting the full blame of it this time next week.
Schools will add to the problem but we can't let this rule our lives anymore. We have the vaccine that's doing its job, there will be collateral deaths but we have to live with it, it's not my future as I've lived a decent life but as Steve Job's said when he was terminally ill, about death:

"It clears out the old to make way for the new."

None of us want to pop our clogs but it's inevitable and you can only die once!
