Imo the only reason for a lockdown should be if the NHS is struggling with capacity, that is literally the only reason and shouldn’t be done in areas where hospitals are coping. It’s shit for the staff and they need all the help they can get but whilst lockdowns are sometimes needed, they cause different damages to society and people that are just as much a “pandemic”.

agreed but i fear we're heading that way, think I just heard hospitalisation has increased 10% in a week. I do not want a lockdown ever, but for the sake of the NHS I will always abide if they are pushing full capacity.

Pneumonia. She died in her sleep. She had been visibly suffering from a cold for a few days before and her mum (my Gran) got some meds from the GP the day she died. Just saying that, in our family experience, infants can go very quickly if signs are missed.
Gran never really got over it. Even in the throes of dementia some 50 years later she would wake up (like she did the day she found her baby in the cot beside her) and wail "the baby's dead, the baby's dead..."
Even now it breaks my heart to remember that.
So sorry to hear that, life is incredibly cruel. It’s every parents worst nightmare. I’d rather be burned at the stake than lose one of mine before I go myself.

Looks like it might have already burned out in SA, in which case extending its life might be exactly the wrong thing to do. We’ve got a real world evidence base that we seem reluctant to use, which seems quite unscientific.
Gauteng hospitals seeing very few extra cases and still functioning as normal, for example.
Agree, but the life expectancy is SA is 64.3 years and in the UK it is 81.2. The age group that are most vulnerable in the UK are not there in sufficient numbers in SA.
