Coronavirus (2021) thread

About 2% - 3% of people in the age categories concerned suffer some form of long covid, something that is worse without a vaccine. At best that impacts your season, as we have seen with our own players, at worse that impacts your career. Very silly risk to take given the miracles of modern science have produced a safe jab that mitigates that, even sillier to trust what you read online against the advice of your own club doctors.
I’m surprised footballers are known for being quite intelligent.

Excuse the crap Craig David impression here, but my wife met up with some mates in town on Saturday. One of them started feeling naff and tested positive on Sunday. My wife then felt a bit off on Monday night before waking up ropey on Tuesday. She had an LFT on Tuesday morning. Negative. She did another later Tuesday evening and that was positive and then it was confirmed via PCR on Wednesday that she has it.

We think she's been Omicron'd as it's all throat based. Her smell and taste is fine, as is her breathing really. She's dead bunged up and has a really, really sore throat. She's basically lost her voice too. She's exhausted and a bit brain foggy.

Weirdly though, nowt for me so far. Loads of negative lft tests and one negative PCR. I'm fine today too. Though I have had a banging headache for a couple of days. A pressure one on one side. I'm convinced I've got it really, really mild but all the tests say nope.

We've not bothered separating so there's no way I've avoided it. Shared the same sofa in the evenings/bed at night etc. Baffles me how I've either not got it or it doesn't pick up. Especially given its almost certainly Omicron and we're both 'only' double jabbed so you think id have it too. Maybe I will and it's just coming on slowly or sumat.
Hope she feels better soon.

I was in a house of 4 for a weekend October of 2020. They all got Covid within just a few days of each other, but I didn't. I did a test when their results were known but mine was negative.

been feeling pretty rough that past week, not bed ridden but strange symptoms, bit of a cold, the trots, arching arms for a night weirdly, extreme fatigue and headaches. But tested negative on LFT for five days. I'm triple jabbed so wondered if being so renders your symptoms to be mild so you don't test positive on LFT?. I know a couple of people who have had similar symptoms and have been testing negative one with random positive tests.

Still extremely unlikely to snuff it though aren’t they?

at under 30, about 1 in 20k chance of dying of Covid, 1 in 250k of Dying from the vaccine.

I cant find exact odd of being hospitalised but under 18's but they a seem to be about 3% of hospitalisation. so not the smallest risk really.

Odds of hospitalisation from the vaccines is about 1 in 100k.

Anyone playing the percentage game properly will get the vaccine hands down.

I get the impression that lateral flow tests don't work.

Admittedly this is based on the experience of my sister-in-law who tested negative about four days in succession and then got a PCR which returned positive. I've read similar stories elsewhere.

PCR seems to be the only way to be sure - either that or take off and nuke it from orbit.

I think that a certain percentage of those following the "we'll just check we're OK with a LFT before we go to the party" may fall foul of this.

Don't LFTs work from how much virus your shedding? Could be you have it (symptoms suggest so) but not infectious, would do a PCR if I were in you.

Edit - also seen posts on IG from people suggesting nasal swab only LFTs aren't accurate at all so should use ones with throat swab too.
