Greater Manchester highlights:

Stockport again had the worst day today as shown by the biggest pop score rise in a day of lower numbers - though itself back down below 200 (just) - as was everyone bar Manchester though it was also down big to lowest number of the week here.

Stockport are now starting to become a bit of a concern. Certainly the worst performing of the 10 boroughs right now. And bigger numbers than they should have on a day where cases fell a lot everywhere.

Both of Oldham and Bury managed to get below 100. Even Wigan was below Stockport.

Total cases 1523 - down 340 - but that is a slightly smaller proportion of the NW drop of 1281 it ought to be and as a result the GM % of the NW total rose to 30%,

This is the highest it has been in the past week as many places elsewhere in the region had bigger falls - such as on Merseyside.

Right now - though the numbers are happily not out of control and not at the level they were when GM was up there driving the NW wave in October/November - there is little doubt that GM is on a bit of a knife edge and Stockport especially could tip either way as right now the biggest problem in the region.

The lockdown should help cases not go out of control and hopefully fall.

But I will not be amazed to hear in the media in a day or two that the new super spreader is revealing big numbers in Stockport. It is not the obvious candidate for being the worst in GM based on past data.

Test and trace is a failure because they rely on people being truthful. They aren't.
Anyway its now delivering - only 9 months late but it is working now. Still needs a quarantine/isolate app to work properly.
It’s also failed because it was centralised (ignoring local Public Health Teams) and focussed on an App, until multi £billions had been wasted. This App gave me a warning of possible Covid exposure when I’d not left the house for a week and I live alone.

Phenomenal numbers today regarding the vaccination, truly a great effort.

However banning travel is bittersweet. Sweet in that it’s the right thing to do, bitter that it’s 11 months too late.
For all of the failings this government have had this last year, this has to be a massive positive
My mum is having the vaccine tomorrow and I know lots of other people with elderly relatives who have had it.
We obviously weren’t prepared for the pandemic but we seem to be prepared to vaccinate (from approvals to purchasing and the actual vaccination of people)
I guess the haters will still hate but it’s nice to see us doing well at one thing anyway.

My wife had Covid and my app said zero exposures that week!!
The thing is obviously shite.
That said I think People blaming Boris is a bit harsh as I am pretty sure he spent all this money with the intention of it actually working.

yea but i feel fine all heeled nicely not sure what to do ! i could phone my GP but that is very busy as people from all over the area are being sent there for their jabs ! perhaps you heel quickly on the outside (scares) but it takes time for your body to get strong to fight of bugs etc

wouldnt mined some time off lol ;)
My mates in this group furloughed unti end of Feb would be Suprised if your employer would have you anywhere near the premises with that letter

It's a tremendous result, no doubt. My only criticism is that it was put up front alongside the announcement of lockdown. I think it did put us at risk of complacency, and it definitely distracted from the important, life saving message.

There's no room at all for that sort of error in communications.

What we're asking doctors to do - by having refused to lockdown sooner or more stringently - is extremely serious stuff:

It happens a lot that companies and public sector organisations decide to have an App before deciding the most appropriate solution to a problem. Hancock might have decided on the approach, I don’t know. I wish it had been a success.

There is also a problem with members of the public refusing to help track and trace that has been highlighted by several posters.

What I’m finding fucking annoying is that the house next to me is student house, the country is in lockdown I can’t go anywhere and the fuckers have all returned in the last week
