More good news from England hospital data

All down and total is below 20,000 for first time since 27 December.

19,983 patients - down 943 in day and by 5351 from 25, 334 last Thursday and by 14, 353 since the peak of England hospitalisations across the pandemic at 34, 336 on 18 Jan - day before the peak England hospital deaths of 851 on 19 Jan.

Ventilators also fell by 92 in the day to 2780 - down 495 from 3275 last Thursday and by 956 from the peak of 3736 on 24 January.
We can all get excited by this, but we need to remember that it's mostly because we are not having much contact with each other, if we release the restrictions tomorrow, we'll just go back to the stupid numbers a month ago within a couple of weeks, I don't think the majority of people understand that sadly.

That data was only on the Pfizer jab though. Are you saying they have as yet unpublished data on the AZ jab that supports this too?

Though I think it very likely if one does then they all will to some extent at least.

It also seems wise to rein people in a bit. My friend after she had the Pfizer jab was expecting to be immune the next day and I had to caution her to wait another 3 weeks as recommended.

It will be easy to see it as liberation day once you have the first vaccination. It has been a long year.

The one thing the AZ vaccine did for me is give me my best nights sleep on Tuesday after having it that I have had for weeks. Are you sure they do not put some brandy in there?
Similar to some of the stories on here (including my own) of having img the best nights sleep with COVID19 coursing through ones veins.
About the only positive thing I can say about the virus’s affect on my body.

Glad you’ve had it & felt no ill effects.

If hospitalisations and deaths are at July 2020 figures, I cannot see them locking down, transmissions or not.

Large crowds will be banned and it’ll be social distancing but retail and hospitality will open.
Depends on where we think mutations are going. If it's nowhere then you will be right. If mutations continue to accrue even if illness abates then the authorities will be worried because we could end up back at square 1. I think that's the background to this. It maybe that these fears are unfounded but I seriously doubt the government is going to just roll back the lockdown based on hospitalisation and death alone. There'll want to be convined that a problem isn't brewing

They already have a vaccine for the variants in the works.
Ready for Aug/Sept. Approval will be faster because they are similar to the current vaccines.
From what i read, they may be rolled out as a kind of booster shot. (even if you have already had the main one etc)
I know but we want that to be the final chapter and not Chapter 2. I do think that we are over the worst now but I am just cautioning that the vaccine evasion threat carries more risk than it once did.

So security guards are going to be cannon fodder in Covid 19 hotels so that the needy can have international travel. Inadequate PPE, escorting guests out of hotels and no requirement to have the most appropriate vaccine to limit Covid spread. I hope it isn’t a shambles.

I don’t think so tbh, maybe globally but here not so much

There’s the Vaccine Manufacturing and Innovation center that’s opening here this year, can alter produce any type of vaccine at scale almost immediately.

then theres the whole innactivated type (traditional kind) of vaccines that are coming on board later this year/next year. They don’t just target the spike protein so should be a lot less resistant to varients.

Everyone over 50 will be jabbed every year, which should be pretty easy with the NHS flu roll out, I think but thinks look good here short, medium and long term re vaccines

So the economy fell by 9.9% last year which is better than economists’ recent estimates. The Bank of England reckon the economy will start to bounce back from April / May when they anticipate things starting to open up and people who’ve saved during the pandemic start spending.

I have a holiday in Lanzarote booked for end May. Moved from May last year. If it goes ahead, great, if not we’ll move it again. Hopefully by then all over 50’s and everyone with underlying conditions will be vaccinated and cases will be back down to last summers levels especially if the vaccines help suppress spread as they appear to. Will then depend on how the other countries are doing.
Same here booked for Greek Island beginning of June, Had to cancel America last July, if we have to cancel again going to wait until September

Ridiculous that they ever allowed it to go ahead.

Not really. They know everyone involved in the tournament is not carrying th virus because they have quarantined for 3 weeks getting tested daily including before entering.

The 13 case outbreak has nothing to do with the Tennis.

That's the same paper I posted before and it confirms that a couple of the neutralising antibody reactions no longer occur in the case of the SA variant.

It maybe sufficient to hold the virus off, or reduce the severity of illness but I think fears about ongoing transmission are going to lead to an extended lockdown until we see whether other mutations form. If experience shows that transmission is at such low levels or that the mutations leads nowhere dangerous then we can lift restrictions further.
Will nasal vaccines, which are already in early trials, not have more of an effect on reducing transmission? I appreciate that is not for now, yet looking ahead to the autumn they could be of benefit.

Social distancing in place till Autumn Boris to announce

ugh i hate this shit so much. If that's ture, and i see it's rumoured to be part of the road map, that's probably cricket matches, and football etc out until 2022?

furthermore, i am looking forward to seeing this roadmap and getting some structure, i hope outdoor sport is back on very soon as that was allowed even in tier 4 from memory. Need my footy team back.

He can fuck off tbh. Absolutely no way they can say that's necessary until then right now. You can't tell people to write-off 2021 after a vaccination campaign that we dont know works yet or not. It'll utterly destroy public confidence.

Also, try telling the public they can't be near their loved ones if this comes true. Utter nonsense.

It’s up to us. If the public follow the rules then some fans should be back in grounds before the end of this season.

My elderly neighbour has got two foreign holidays booked..Italy in may and Mauritius in September..I've told her you most likely won't be going..she's adamant she's going. The natives are getting restless.
