One of the first hospitals to get the Oxford vaccine on Saturday was the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, part of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Dr George Findlay, chief medical officer and deputy chief executive at the trust, said: "You only have to look at the statistics over the last 10 months about how many staff have suffered illness, or sadly lost their lives.

"This (vaccine) gives staff the confidence to come to work to be able to look after patients.

Really, clueless and in a panic? I just happen to work in a job where are clients expect us to meet tight deadlines in programmes and we plan ahead and ensure we do.

Rather than trying to belittle people why dont you give me the benefit of your experience in rolling out vaccines and explain what has been happening in the last four days since approval?

Come on explain? Also explain what 'science' has to do with loading vaccines onto refridgerated transport and sending it to vaccine centres??

Specifically please explain what has been done the last four days that couldnt have been done the previous four mths in readiness.

I wont hold my breath as i suspect you will do a runner and avoid the questions like you do everytime you get called to explain something in a discussion.
I NEVER run from a discussion , you are set in your view

You are not going to be persuaded that things are moving , well over a million have been vaccinated already , the vaccines are being delivered as we speak, you will kill more if you rush huge groups of people together in a rush to get them vaccinated

We are moving a tanker not a boat

You cant have people sat waiting until they are needed to do the job , staff are needed where they should be as numbers in hospitals spiral out of control, as the vaccines are delivered they and recruits will move into place

My friend has been vaccinated at my surgery this week already

I understand why the government wants kids back at school. But the sad fact is, we can't send the kids back to school till school testing is in place clamp down on outbreaks PDQ.
Work testing needs to be done as well
But what other restrictions can be put in place. The only thing that could improve things is to hit take Covidiots out of circulation and frankly the police don't have the resources to do that.
The only other restrictions, beyond school and unis, is nurseries, which were closed in March, except for key workers. And not being able to meet anyone outdoors.

schools

when schools first went back we were told each year would be in a bubble, each class would be in a bubble, which i guess on paper works. Every one must wear a face mask on trains, bus etc, sounds ok on paper.

Than stand outside the train station when the kids are getting off, i would say about 60 to 70 i saw every day. All different age groups, walking from the train station to school through the town. One long line of school kids taking up the whole width of the pavement, no metre gaps just a long line of about 50 metres, of kids.

Whats the point of schools having bubbles when the kids just walk down from the train station in one big mixed group of 60 or more at a time ? My simple brain cant understand how anyone thinks this is going to work. I dont know if the school were telling kids NOT to do that, if the school was it was just ignored. Within weeks Thanet went to being one of the worst places in the country for covid, now Thanet has improved and rates have dropped abit. Why ? Kids are of ! watch it jump again once we get the kids back.

Labour's shadow culture secretary Jo Stevens is being treated in hospital for COVID-19.

A statement on the 54-year-old MP's Twitter account said: "Jo has asked us to let you know that she is being treated in hospital for Covid.

"Thanks for all your good wishes we will give an update when we can."

I just , unlike you , understand rolling out mass vaccinations has to be right ,i also understand first hand the difficulties of getting millions to places to be vaccinated that is safe for all , remember everyone is still spreading it around , going for a vaccine does not make you less contageous , do you want to pack into anywhere right now . i wont patronise you but you are clueless and seem in a panic

Hmmmmm. There's a hell of a lot of testing stations in the middle of housing estates though.....

“Hundreds of new vaccination sites are due to come onstream this week, joining the 700 which are already in operation.
The first Oxford AstraZeneca vaccinations will be delivered at a small number of hospitals for the first few days for surveillance purposes, as is standard practice, before the bulk of supplies are send to hundreds of GP-led services later in the week.
Oxford University NHS Hospitals Trust, where the vaccine was developed, is expected to be among the first sites to administer it on Monday morning.”

What does that mean ? It has to be done according to clinical need , patients are identified by their medical need , testing needs to continue at testing stations and the staff there are not qualified to give vaccines
