Do you get to choose which version of the vaccine you get or is it just whatever you're given? Saw on the BBC website the Oxford one has an effectiveness of between 70%-90% whilst all the others have a 95% effectiveness. Unless I'm not understanding this correctly it seems pretty pointless getting the least effective one.

Both vaccines were highly effective in preventing severe disease, which is what really matters. The Oxford/AZ was actually better on that front (100% vs 90%) though case numbers were too small to be significant.

And it's not possible to directly compare different vaccine results unless both were in the same trial as all sorts of details vary, and can matter eg age breakdown of participants.

Of course, less than 1% of the world has had the chance of any vaccine. When I get the call, I won't be quibbling which one.

Had my first vaccine (Oxford) at the Etihad today. It was all very well organised with all staff being polite and professional. Going there remind reminded me of how much I miss match day! Having already had covid hopefully this will top up my immunity while waiting for the second dose.

GM Scoreboard:

1365 - down 189 from 1554. 31.2% of North West Total which fell 625 to 4382. Rise of 0.2% on yesterday

Pop Score is cases across whole pandemic v 100,000 people - rises daily but lower the better.

Weekly Pop is same measure across last 7 days only. Can rise or fall depending on if more cases or less occur today v the same day last week.

Either way Up is bad, down is good.

Manchester 292 – down from 359. Total 43, 721. Weekly 2108. Pop score up 53 to 7908. Weekly Pop down 11 to 381.

Wigan 173 - down from 180. Total cases 23, 917. Weekly 1171. Pop score up 53 to 7277. Weekly Pop down 5 to 356.

Bolton 143 - down from 159. Total cases 20, 705. Weekly 1039. Pop score up 50 to 7201. Weekly Pop down 1 to 362.

Salford 121- down from 171. Total cases 18, 841. Weekly 926. Pop score up 47 to 7279. Weekly Pop down 4 to 358.

Stockport 117 – down from 138. Total cases 16, 507. Weekly 889. Pop score up 40 to 5626. Lowest Pop Score rise of the day in GM. First time in a while Stockport has claimed that once common daily record. Weekly Pop down 26 to 303.All of a sudden second best weekly Pop in GM after being second worst last week. Another big drop as cases have been well down on last week. In just 6 days Stockport's Weekly Pop has fallen from 445 to 303 showing how fast these numbers can turn around. Though it has much lower numbers week to week to match from now on so it could easily go the other way next!

Rochdale 112 - up from 97. Rare rise here of late. Total cases 17, 509. Weekly 729. Pop score up 50 to 7872.Weekly Pop up 4 to 327.

Trafford 111 - down from 121. Total cases 13, 705. Weekly 748. Pop score up 47 to 5774. Stockport's Pop Score lead stretches another 7 to 148. Weekly Pop down 11 to 315.

Tameside 104– down from 139. Total cases 14, 561. Weekly 757. Pop score up 46 to 6429. Weekly Pop up 1 to 334.

Oldham 103 - up from 88. Total cases 19, 317. Weekly 626. Best weekly total in GM. Pop score up 44 to 8147. Weekly Pop up 5 to 264. Still the only borough in the 200s - for now.

Bury 89 - down from 112. Total cases 14, 263. Weekly 664. Pop score up 47 to 7468. As numbers were even lower than this last week the Weekly Pop up goes up 7 to 348.

Nobody in GM now above the 300s and all boroughs are spread between 264 and 381 and the gaps narrowing. A sign of numbers returning more to normality. Which given the circumstances can only be good news

Fell back down again today after feeling v positive yesterday. Something like day 12 now.
It’s the way it’s sat on my chest...like having sand in my lungs I can’t cough out.

Likely I’m just susceptible to chest infections?
Convinced I got hit badly as my immune system was off guard (I was feeling run down, possibly due to crap sleep). I was doing two hour evening walks with the dog in the freezing cold over the past few months (with runs added in two).
Loads of energy....but feeling that completely deflated & struggling to walk for more than five mins has been quite sobering.

Very rare I get ill when I see others succumbing to illnesses during the year I put it down to a fit & healthy lifestyle.

Knocked me back physically & mentally quite hard this.
Does this mean in the future I’m far more liable to fall for similar respiratory diseases?
Maybe I got unlucky & had the full viral load from my daughter who had this over Xmas....

I'm sorry to read that you feel a bit worse today mate, all I can say is don't be too hard on yourself. I'm sure you'll get through it and hopefully be out running again sooner rather than later. Remember to take it easy, don't get too down when you're having a bad day, sure your body will do whatever it's got to do to get you over it. Totally agree with @everythingchangesbutblue btw, the light at the end of the tunnel is that you'll be full of the good stuff once you get through this. Keep going fella

I agree with everything you've said. Worries me because I think the vaccine with reduce illness but not stop transmission.

I honestly don't see life ever being 'normal' again.

I mean, do you ever see full football stadiums again for eg?
Not for a long time, watched an old concert on TV the other night with all the crowd crammed together and said to the mrs just can't see that happening again.
