Got my text through for my vaccine this morning. Booked it for Friday morning in Wythenshawe. Im fine with the vaccine but worried about being around people. I've only been out 3 times for bloods etc since late feb. Needs must though.

I suppose it's not entirely impossible to have it available toward the end of Fabruary. If J&J submitted to all three bodies simultaneously, say Feb 18th, then the UK, on current form, is likely to approve it within a week, so if stocks are available, it could be in use before the end of next month.

it's possible, yes, although it seems to me that a fast authorisation may be viewed poorly in some quarters - I was basing it on the previous time periods for regulation being about a month, although it seems reasonable that JnJ are doing what they can to fast-track it.

I reckon around the first week of March.

It's a shit situation all around, my worry is that schools are a breeding ground for this virus. Kids seem to be asymptomatic towards the virus but then bring it home to their families. On the strength of that alone I can understand people want to close them down.

On the other hand with two Grandkids I am really worried about what they are missing out on, already the best part of a year with a make shift education and now facing another couple of months at least.

Been on school run this morning with my 2 (7 and 4) and they're doing just fine. I can understand teens may be going stir crazy and missin vital parts of their education and social life but younger kids are not going to miss out on much, or go mental because of it.

The problem is with the new variant is kids 12-15 deliver twice the viral load as the previous one when they catch it so they spread it at school and at home twice as much as they did before.
And as you say they are mainly asymptomatic.

In the UK, the AstraZeneca vaccine was submitted on Dec 23 and given approval on Dec 30. The J&J vaccine is a similar type but will presumably only have data for the single-dose; assuming it meets their requirements, I suspect that both the UK and the US will approve this one comparatively quickly.

However, if there aren't sufficient stocks to meet needs, it might be prudent to delay announcing its approval to the public and instead wait a week or so until stocks are set to roll.
