I'm no expert, but some people are questioning whether having one dose of the Pfizer vaccine and then a dose of the AZ vaccine some time after is effective, and it sounds like there's not been much, if any, research on this. They have every reason to voice their concern.
New guidelines change the interval between doses, people will get the same vaccine each time, seemed quite clear about this in the announcement unless the published guidelines say different? So those who have already had a Pfizer for first dose will get that as their second dose.

REGIONAL SCOREBOARD SOUTH

EAST 7640 - up from 7479. Record high.

LONDON 15, 089 - up from 12, 404 Record high.

SOUTH EAST 10, 344 - up from 9771, Record high.

SOUTH WEST 2104 - down from 2686.

35, 177 - another record

69% of todays England cases in the South.

And those London figures are terrifying.

Wk to wk over past month here: 4238 v 7378 v 9790 v 15, 089 TODAY

This may well be where the NW is headed in the month of January unless we do enough to stem the tide.

There was far too much optimism on vaccines right from the start of the pandemic for me, and still is.

Agreed. Defeating the virus will require a vaccine, but it will require international cooperation of unprecedented levels, and until that happens, individual countries will continue to set undeliverable targets and make meaningless comparisons and contrasts, all the while wasting time and lives.

Yeah, this was my reason for putting it as alarming, as the original dose period has gone from 21 days to 12 weeks? Surely that’d hinder the effectiveness of the 1st dose? Maybe I’m getting confused.
It’s been reported to increase the effectiveness of the first dose (within the 12 week duration agreed by the MHRA). 70% efficacy / protection for the first dose of the Oxford / AC vaccine was reported on the radio.

REGIONAL SCOREBOARD :- MIDLANDS

EAST MIDLANDS 3079 - up from 2782

WEST MIDLANDS 2860 - huge drop from 4986.

It will also require people to stick to the bloody rules rigorously, something that many still seem to find difficult or impossible.

This is not what is being proposed , people will get two doses of the same vaccine , it is the time interval that has changed.

The evidence the MHRA have suggests that it increases the effectiveness for the Oxford vaccine.

There is no particular reason why the Pfizer vaccine should be ineffective after a second dose at twelve weeks but it has not been studied so they are taking a chance on this.

REGIONAL SCOREBOARD

Not good news for the North West.

The only region in the north still going up today despite lower numbers

We are starting to look on the same track as the South just a week or two behind unfortunately.
The government look like a kid who thinks he can stop a wave at the seaside. He keeps running back on the beach; he knows the wave will eventually come in. Everyone else on the beach has been telling him for hours. He delays the inevitable then finally accepts what everyone had been telling him. We know the new variant is spreading. We have the vaccine on its way. So why they are delaying the inevitable national lockdown beggars belief.

REGIONAL SCOREBOARD - THE NORTH

NORTH EAST 1130 - DOWN from 1875

YORKSHIRE 2175 - DOWN from 2495

But, unfortunately,

NORTH WEST 5164 - UP from 4746. This is the highest number for two and a half months.

You can plan as much as you like, but if the supply isn't there whatever the reason, you can't deliver.
These vaccines have been on the horizon for a while. I'm sure after all the money wasted on ppe stuck in container ports a bit of foresight could have been used to make it a little bit easier to prepare for vaccinations. Lessons learnt and all that

4.9 million according to the 2018 census, though that presumably doesn’t include the snowbirds.

Pretty sure I heard on CNN last week that c9m doses had been shipped to Florida but there were issues with vaccination program.

Amazing that countries with pretty much all the means necessary to deliver complex projects all appear to be making a bit of a hash of it.

Just driven through Uppermill and there's three places on the High Street selling coffee. Loads of customers all crowded round on the pavement, no-one keeping any distance apart, no face masks, total dickheads.
Its the same in every village, here in Monton the crowds gather outside Costa all day every day.

As long as this 'i know better,i'm alright Jack...' attitude continues, this virus is going nowhere.

Mucg harder penalty and sanction is needed.
