Coronavirus (2021) thread

Driving for a walk is not contributing to the spread of this disease or the crush in the hospitals. It's Christmas and all other unnecessarily socialising that is doing it.
It will be contributing to the overall strain on the NHS though, increased traffic will mean more accidents and some of those will inevitably require attendance by emergency services. It might not be a large number and I would accept that some people may need to drive to reach somewhere appropriate for their exercise, however, 30 miles is excessive.

My son is learning to drive, in addition to driving instructors having to stop, government guidance is not to take him out for lessons ourselves as it’s not an essential journey, same principle.

Good for Morrisons, just announced that they are banning shoppers who refuse to wear a mask. Hope they challenge those claiming to be exempt with "Covid doesn't care who is exempt if you are that weak you shouldn't be out in public places"
CEO is a Blue as well, good on him.

Just seen that wimpy shadow health secretary saying that the government are “delaying the vaccination roll out to NHS”. Thank God he didn’t get the gig. The UK has vaccinated more people than the rest of Europe combined. The government have got a lot wrong but when something is going well I would have a lot more respect if they would say that and stop cheap political point scoring.

Well said sir , saved me posting the same

Press doing their usual gotcha questions. Kate Ferguson at the Sun what a twat?
Was it her who asked why they’re not doing 24 hour vaccinations?

I wish they’d asked if she would like to take her 90 year old relative, or clinically vulnerable relative at 3 AM to be vaccinated.

Maybe later in the programme it would work but for now it was a really stupid, ill thought out question.

No testing updated today so no positivity rating. Gov UK are pretty useless at giving an England testing update - never over weekends or Mondays. All the other nations achieve this amazing feat. England never have.

Why are they trying to catch them out all the fkin time!! Just give it a rest!!

And all this - "are restrictions going to get harder?? ", how about we do this - if you think they should get harder than tighten yo on what you do. You don't need to wait for someone else to tell you.
Some people are one of those that sit in bed thinking "christ, if someone doesn't shout me soon I'm going to be late for work!"

Take things into your own hands and don't wait to be told. If you don't need to go out then don't ffs!
Yep, it’s fucking frightening!

I never realised this before Covid but it appears that a worrying amount of people can’t think or act for themselves. They can’t take responsibility for anything, they have to be told what to do and have their hand held all the way. I don’t know how some people make it from one day to the next!

A few times over the last year I’ve put myself into more strict restrictions if I’ve felt the govt’s rules at that particular time weren’t strong enough. I thought that would be a common sense thing to do that many people would also enact for themselves.

The problem is not people being able to think for themselves, it’s those (including a lot on here) who think others need to be told what to do.

Us plebs cannot make our own judgements because the media, government and aloof Bluemooners know better

REGIONAL SCOREBOARD

Of course lots of big falls in case numbers today. How meaningful we may not know until tomorrow.

A couple of areas DID rise.

But highlights :-

London down over 3000 to 10, 110 - lowest since Christmas

South East down to 6692 - not way over North West

East falls to lowest in couple of weeks and below NW at 4724. Fourth day on the run NW beaten them.

South West only southern area rising - up 600 to 3599 - second highest ever. Its hospital data was worrying when I posted it last night too. BIg rises for this small area in patients and ventilators, Doubled since Christmas.

North East fell to below 1000 at 878

Yorkshire down 800 to just 1882.

East Midlands rose but only by 52 to 2900.

West Midlands though more significant rise by nearly 1000 to 5659.

In fact it was actually above the North West today.

NORTH WEST fell by 2146 - one of biggest falls of the day - to 5419

Out of interest, I’ve actually had to do a few hours decent work today, and this thread jumped 30 pages since lunch - what have I missed if anyone could sum up today’s happenings for me.

Thanks in advance.

These briefings. .... do the Government, NHS, journalists really believe that the people currently blatantly breaking the rules ever watch live MSM? Don’t think so. They are preaching to the converted and alarming them more. Only the law and police can deal with the idiots. If we are honest we have probably all broken the rules slightly for reasons we deem essential, but have done it as within the rules as possible.

Read it yourself you lazy get

I know it's pretty crude way of doing it but given what Hancock said in the press conference today you can kind of work out when things might be relaxed

2 million a week is the expected run rate this week so they should hit that at least going forward

60 year old's with no underlying conditions were mentioned today about the last group needed to vaccinate to massively reduce hospitalizations

If you enter those details as a on the vaccine calculator, "you should expect to receive your first dose of vaccine between 21/03/2021 and 30/03/2021"

Add 3 weeks on to that for immunity to kick in, and you are probably looking end of April/May for most restrictions to be lifted. Schools and shops etc should open long before, but pubs will probably be around then.

Obviously if they ramp things up those dates could come in, but people will be due their 2nd doses from March so increased capacity for that needs factoring in.

My friend btw was told by her doctor today she would be contacted when they were ready when she DID ask but instructed she HAD to go to Manchester Royal later this week for treatment on her heart failure and when she asked about Covid told it was very safe. Not to worry.

And when she asked if they would give her the vaccine if she made the effort to go there told - not up to them - talk to your doctor.

Who had just said wait to hear from the government and told her to go to the hospital.

My views on this get increasingly angry every time we speak.
This what gets people incredibly frustrated and, understandably, very upset. Effective communication is essential.

It is a pandemic , people have to stick to the collective rules and not do what they decide to do

Greater Manchester highlights

Down but not by as much as hoped - only 289 of the 2146 in the NW - as a result of which the GM percentage of the NW rose from 25% to 29%.
