The problem with road map idea is that this bloody virus keeps kicking us in unexpected ways, making a nonsense today of what seemed sensible yesterday. Still, as one getting the abdabs now, agree some hope must be given.
True

The uk response has resulted in the worst death rate in the world.

Regardless of who you might think could do worse still, nobody has actually managed to do worse.

That strongly suggests that literally anybody else would be better.

I really don't think it's sunk in just how shocking the uk death toll is.

The UK is up there but there are a few worse. Though the UK is fast catching them up.

I think Slovenija is the only one now. Belgium counts deaths completely differently to everyone else. Other than that, it's us.

Appalling.

Czechs are marginally ahead of the UK too I think.

I think all countries are counting deaths somewhat differently (or are less honest in their figures). I'm not sure numbers of deaths show a true picture. It's hard to believe that countries with much higher numbers (pro rata) of infected are so much lower in deaths.

There’ll definitely be several if not many seriously under reporting their deaths, not that it in anyway makes our efforts better but a lot of the comparisons aren’t worth much.

thought the UK was the worse based on population versus deaths

Belgium and Czechs are higher at present I think. Not sure number of deaths is that good a tool for comparison though as different countries seem to count them differently (or at least I assume that's the reason for some discrepancies in figures).

Lots of we could do better shite on here, also got to think when compared to other countries that we are FOUR not one.
love to hear how most of our deaths were avoidable.

It's a sad fact that the UK has one of the highest death rates in the world currently but what we can do now is ensure that we are one of the first countries badly affected to come through it. The only way to do this is by a rapid mass vaccination programme and we are actually doing brilliantly so far. With today's figure of 400,000 vaccinations in the last recorded 24 hour period we have given at least one dose to 8.1% of the population. The daily numbers will increase substantially & I'm very confident that the top four cohorts will be done by mid February.

There have been many missteps but our support for the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine combined with our procurement strategy have been world class.

To be honest there are a lot of countries fairly similar. The difference between 1200 and 1500 / million in fairly insignificant in statistical terms , especially with different counting systems.
There will need to be a long hard look at how we coped with this , but not just here in many countries in europe and the U.S in particular where we were all caught unprepared for this.
