Coronavirus (2021) thread

That's baffling and makes you wonder why. As covid is transmitted basically the same way, as far as I'm aware, could flu be also showing up as covid, or somehow merged with it and covid being the dominant factor being registered as covid?

I guess some people who may have gone to a doctor's with flu probably didn't due to the difficulty of actually getting to see a doctor. Also the extra sanitary precautions must have helped to limit it's spread.
Isn’t it the effect of social distancing and the greater transmissibility of Covid as opposed to flu?

The number of people suffering from the flu in England has plunged by more than 95% to levels not seen for 130 years.

Data experts at the Royal College of General Practices (RCGP) said that in the third week of January - usually a peak time for the flu - the number of flu-like illnesses reported to doctors was 0.9 per 100,000 people compared with a five-year average of 27.

I can see us naturally reverting to social distancing every winter , that would be a good thing
A good thing? How could that possibly be a good thing

Could anyone who's recently purchased an oximeter please give me their recommendation/link for theirs? The link for the one I'd bought is out of stock.
I'm looking at getting one for my grandson who has quite severe asthma of late.
The poor little fella's in hospital for a second night tonight because of it. He's ok and in good spirits. I just think mum and dad would be well served by having one.

To clarify i was thinking about supermarkets and not hugging strangers , washing hands a lot and maybe masks , that sort of thing , i didnt think the rest through tbf
Fair enough. I agree with that. And I only hug strangers when City score! God I miss that!

We know exactly what he said, but he made a big deal out of it which was an unnecessary pop at worsley, and now has a sense of humour failure when there is a bit of banter.

But tbh, your post probably isn’t helping either as it’s dragging it on.

I suggest this is the end of it and we all just move on as bottom line is, as cleavers also said, that the vaccine rollout has been fantastic and it’s all good.

yes let’s just have a punch up at the meet up and draw a line under it!

By the looks of it Captain Tom is in hospital because of battling pneumonia for a week or two and not as a result of the the Covid positive result. On a ward too. Not icu. Which is good.

Not sure why I am surprised (as he should be on it but isn't) yet there is a list out there of when every elderly celeb has had their vaccination!

I'd also question the wisdom of his family taking him with them to spend Xmas in Barbados.......

That was my initial thought. I wasn't sure if maybe Boots or the like was the way to go. Just looking for a recommendation really.

I agree, some of these things are good for us all, I know I'll be continuing with them, for my own sake. Keeping the number of things I touch to a minimum, cleaning supermarket trolley handles, sanitizing hands where necessary, can't see a problem.

Bought a cheap one off ebay who which does seem to give the same results as expensive stuff at work (if you put your finger the right way up)

Nah. Telling people to give up on christmas every year and be on their own throughout the dark months? Zero chance of society accepting that miserable existence. What I hope is that now we have the MRNA vaccines we could actually produce better flu vaccines tbh. That'd be a real win. Dunno if it's possible, but it surely is.
Zero chance I’m ever giving up Christmas.
