Think there is a catch 22 thing happening in some communities. I've been invited to a few zoom events with African and Carribean medical professionals explaining the benefits and low risk nature of the vaccines that are targetted at African and Carribean communities who are vaccine cautious.

However that targeting has sometimes led to a belief that the vaccine is being "tested" on those communities and being pushed specifically on them. Which makes them less likely to have the vaccine.

Dunno how that problem is solved but it appears to be one (in the small sample size of some people I know).

As for your mate I would have thought he would be in group 6. When I received my text there was a link to the NHS page where I think you can check what is covered by Group 6 so you check if you were actually eligible to receive one.

The issue is though that different areas are working at different paces through the groups so it will depend where he lives. Some are moving on to groups such as ours whereas others are only just starting on the Over 65's.

Thanks for the info, his cancer is incurable as it spread from his prostate to his hip before being diagnosed in 2015, the good thing is it's being contained but as you can imagine he's on quite a lot of medication. I'm hoping he gets the invite this week but bearing what you said I'll advise him to contact the docs if he's heard nothing by say the end of next week. His wife who is the same age (we were all at school together) has recovered from Breast cancer herself, chemotherapy and radiotherapy which reduces the immune system, she's also not heard anything, she has a different GP, cheers.

Interesting and very positive article in the Times this morning. There is already evidence that the vaccines are reducing hospitalisations, deaths and also transmission. They also say thay alll over 50s will have had at least their first shot by March 24th, which is before large scale second doses need to be administered.

It’s conspiracy-laden nonsense whoever you are.

I predicted similar ages ago but it depends on the vaccine rate staying at current rates and politicians have intimated it will fall significantly over the next two weeks.

Sir Simon Stevens said they they were going to double the rate of vaccinations soon. Whilst they said that there will be "bumps in the supply chain", I didn't hear anything about expected supply issues in the next few weeks.

I think they are deliberately setting themselves a soft target saying end of April for over 50s - I've also said before that I think they are probably privately hoping to get all over 50s done before last week of March because of the ramp up in 2nd doses then.

I'm 53 this year so I'll let you know if I'm done before 24th March.

Not arguing that it is a reasonable response just highlighting how it may be a difficult issue to resolve. You don't tend to get buy in from people by telling them to get over conspiracy-laden nonsense particularly when there is evidence of conspiracy laden nonsense being true in the past. You can win over individuals but it is a slower process

I just find the attitude towards this particular situation different than others, that’s what I don’t like.

What I also don’t like is people being killed by stupidity and that’s why I am reluctant to show sympathy here.

The vast majority of over 80’s, predominantly white, have now had the vaccine, it’s well beyond the point of black people thinking they’re being guinea pigs.
