Coronavirus (2021) thread

One year ago today, I started showing symptoms of Covid-19 after a visit to the doctors surgery 3 days before hand and sitting next to a man who had broke his leg skiing in the Italian alps.
A 3 month nightmare followed.
Have your jab, don't let it happen to you.

whole heartedly agree - I had Covid - I had the OAZ vaccine - the after effects of the vaccine was a worse experience than the virus in my case but I'd still urge anyone to have the jab to take one more baby step to make us all safer.

Thats why I always read your posts. So much more informative than what the shitty press print, often days or weeks behind. Your posts are the ones I always look for the most in the afternoons.
Thank you, but I know what I write is not everyone's cup of tea. So it is not a criticism of those who do not. Just a reminder that the media may tell it better but it may not be quite as it seems as it will be often at least 24 hours old.

Zoe App today shows another fall - 231 - on yesterday to 4162 predicted cases.

No sign in the app at least that schools are yet driving cases upward.

Even more interesting - for the first time in a few weeks the North West is now below London in the UK regions with a rate of 27 - 106 versus London 37 - 98.

Yorkshire is even further ahead as the worst part of UK at 74 - 222.

These are predicted new daily cases per million population btw.

86, 079 predicted to have symptomatic Covid in UK today.

Which means less than one in ten of those are hospitalised based on the UK patient numbers as of yesterday.

As feared on BBC just now doctor noting there are reports of people walking out of vaccination centres in the UK refusing to have the vaccine when they hear it is AZ.

If it turns out there is nothing in this the EU will - regardless of their motives - hurt a lot of people and have lost many friends in a nation I am sure they all hope will return one day. Which in the past few weeks they have made less and less likely.

Hopefully a minuscule minority that isn’t pandered to. The policy is get what you’re given so if they refuse any particular vaccine they can either change their minds or take their chances.

That’s got to be stage managed. Like the hearsay about people only wanting the Oxford / AZ, a few months ago.

A few months ago this thread had a Pfizer superiority crew. The reality is that all the vaccines are good enough.

They can give me a call if people are walking out, most people I know would crawl over broken glass for the jab AZ or not.

If Europe doesn’t want the Az jab send it our way, better still send it to the third world countries who are getting vaccine deliveries in the hundred thousands whilst the western world gets them delivered in quantities of millions.

EMA news conference at 1pm GMT, don't know if anything new will be said or just summary of current knowledge

The ONS data had an interesting feature in its report on the fall of deaths. Apparently the number who died WITH Covid but determined to have died FROM Covid fell from 90.2% at the peak of this wave (when we had nearly 40,000 in UK hospitals in January) to just 80% in the latest data out today (to 5 March).

There have been several phone ins on TV this morning on various channels and there were what seemed like reasonable people with risk of blood clots raised for various reasons asking for advice from doctors there to reassure that it was safe. ITV This Morning had one - in between milking a horse and drinking it!

I do get this as I had a chat with my GP a year or two back about whether I should continue with HRT because of the blood clot factor and judging balance of risk as I got older. Plenty of women have this conversation so may be more sensitive to this news.

Wonderful little insight just now on BBC 2.

During the vaccine ordering process when the £15 billion plans were discussed in Whitehall for commercial reasons the various vaccines had to be referred to in code!

They gave them names of submarines.

Pfizer was called Ambition.

AZ was called Triumph!

And - they conveniently miss - the three days SINCE those numbers posted were all much lower by 25% or so.

I know most people never read the data I post every evening in here for Greater Manchester that tracks it day to day.

That is your choice, of course. And it is hard to read in a big table so I am not saying you all should do. Noir attacking the press as they are by necessity days behind.

But if you want to know what is happening now that is where it is each evening in here. Not in the MEN or local press which is often what was happening a few days ago.

Both matter, obviously. In different ways. But City were not top of the league for most of this season and then they were. The title is awarded on the data as it stands now - not a few games ago.
Good analogy !

Won’t happen. They’re not the only ones sat on vaccines. The US is sat on an estimated 10 million AZ doses but still haven’t approved it. They also rejected countries who asked for it.

I agree

You think the planet would take a joined up approach to vaccinating people. The longer this virus sits out there ripping through populations the more chance of a variant happening that could put us back to square one.

EMA to make a decision by Thursday.

Unbelievable.

They said yesterday there would be an update today and conclusion Thursday.

I mean, any organisation sticking to what they've promised is unusual, but not entirely unbelievable.
