Sir Kenneth Brannagh playing Boris in a new Sky 5 part drama series about the pandemic - This Sceptred Isle.

They are wasting no time!

Although This Septic Isle might have been a better title.

Had to scroll 3/4 of the way down the page to find the thread.

30 million vaccinations. Only 19 deaths yesterday from it and the roadmap to freedom starting.

Are we beating this in this country?

I don't venture to the politics forum but most surely will acknowledge that the governments performance in 2021 in dealing with Covid has been excellent? Can that even be argued against.

Lets hope we keep up the vaccination pace in April.
I suspect you like to go around kicking hornets nests in your spare time ;-)

Seen more planes landing at Ringway today than in a while. Coming in one after the other at one point - something not seen in ages.

Have I missed something about unlocking travel restrictions?
Maybe it’s linked to U.K. nationals having to return from EU Countries having failed to complete the required (right to stay) document in time. Presumably, that overrides the Covid rules? There was coverage in the weekend’s press about this but I’ve no idea if it would justify increased flights.

Just had a look on Flight Radar to check. It was a Jet 2 Boeing flying round and round in circles for ages practising landings and take offs without doing either I assume. There were several other planes in between on actual flights but that Jet 2 plane was what made it look unusually busy.

Yes, Jet2 and easyJet have been doing circuits this morning.

The 5 day total for 24 March is just 28 - a week ago the 5 day total for 17 March was 58 (it is currently at 60).

That is a very significant drop in 7 days.

Not one date today added more than 6 deaths - first time that has happened in many months.

It is also the first time since 26 September that day 2 in England hospitals is in single figures (27 March is at 9 after 2 days).

Here are the last three week run of 5 day totals:-

109 - 127 - 98 - 88 - 107 - 91 - 81

90 - 67 - 74 - 66 - 68 - 60 - 58

42 - 44 - 51 - 50 - 43 - 51 - 28 TODAY

Scotland data:

0 deaths - was 0 last week (Monday data always low on this as we know due to weekend registration issue)

352 cases - was 359 last week

3.2% positivity - was 3.7% last week

259 patients - was 264 yesterday & 353 last week.

22 ventilated icu - was 22 yesterday & 33 last week.

England hospital deaths. Just 7 of those 18 were over 80 btw. Lowest in that age range as far back as I can recall.

Though 10 of the 18 were in the 60 to 79 age range.

Really positive news, with these numbers I wonder if they will start being able to differentiate those that die with, or because of covid. Wondering whether the small number of over 80s just happened to have it when they died meaning vaccine is really doing it’s job to the level they said.

Scottish vaccination update:

2, 409, 826 first doses given - 24, 117 today - was 26, 902 yesterday & 37, 460 last week

326, 263 second doses given - 23, 943 today - was 17, 606 yesterday & 4908 last week

Pretty consistent numbers with rise in second doses.

Northern Ireland data:

0 deaths - was 0 last week

65 cases - was 87 last week

2.6% positive - was 8.7% last week

5 care home outbreaks - was 6 yesterday and 17 last week.

7 day cases total 1016 - was 1061 yesterday and 1050 last week

129 patients - UP 3 in day - was 160 last week

12 ventilators - up 1 in day - was 12 last week

Hospital data up a bit - often true after weekend.

But lowest case numbers since last Summer and the decimation of care home outbreak is remarkable. Heading for zero soon. Hopefully.

So total deaths with just England out of hospital to come (probably nil given Sunday data) is 19.

It has been 19 after adjustments the other day but all the deaths reported today were from the past week so not likely here.

That is remarkable even on a Monday and the lowest in a very long time of the reported number.

It was last lower six months ago in late September.
