Have you or anybody you know actually had the flu or a bad cold since the first lockdown last year? I've got a feeling all the measure taken to avoid COVID have actually stifled the spread of other viruses.

Total deaths with out of hospital England to come is 25

Last week was 32 wk before (with Wales excluded) 41 and wk before that 41 also then wk before 66

Both missing Wales data remember. Will be added tomorrow and double dose Monday.

I posted the other day in here that this was true from the data. We had a period with ZERO flu but the same happened in Australia in their Winter (last Summer) - so it IS the measures taken - washing hands - social distancing - not the vaccine that is why.

Hopefully we will continue this beyond Covid.

Total cases with England to come - and Wales missing again of course - 257

Last week was 309 - wk before (again excluding Wales) 427 - wk before 481 - wk before - 701

Gov UK data

32 all settings deaths

2061 cases

Missing Wales, of course, though that is not going to be much as they have not been in three figures all week.

So pubs, schools and a lot of other things now have been back open for the past 2 weeks and rates are still going down. Is this now a sign the vaccines are working very well for us? or is it still too early yet, and need to wait until more restrictions are lifted in another few weeks?

I still can’t move! 6 days in and now can’t taste as well. How does that last?

After his many days did people start to feel better?

Its not a vaccine (doesnt stop you getting it or spreading it) more of a clinic trial jab

I lost my taste and smell completely in April 2020 when it wasn't conformed as a stmptom when clearly it was .

I bought the highest strength zinc tablets as reqd that helped and in May as still had nothing and it came back 2 weeks later slightly after taking tablets .

A year on I would say my smell and taste has returned to about 50%.
I cant taste anything bland and have zero taste of cold food.

Rubbish

Regional Cases Today

Highlight:- Most of the big fall in case number today is in the South.

Greater Manchester actually down just 13 on day but UP 8 week to week. That fall all comes from Manchester which has a nice low score. Some slightly disappointing numbers from other boroughs such as Stockport, Oldham and Rochdale today - and seeing Manchester single figures only ahead of 4 other boroughs is very unusual. But these are small numbers, small margins. Not anything to worry about. It could all change tomorrow and probably will.

Cases show up or down on yesterday and the v number is versus 7 days ago.

SOUTH

East down 69 to 163 v 176

London down 140 to 251 v 355 (London falls biggest number today and takes it off top spot)

South East down 124 to 197 v 257 (South East with another big fall takes it below the North West after recent rises)

South West down 26 to 111 v 119

Every southern region down and accounting for most of the UK fall today.

MIDLANDS

East UP 6 to 183 v 184 - up but 'big' drop of ONE from last week!

West down 13 to 189 v 160

Midlands is doing better in recent days. Following the falls in the south the good news heading northward.

NORTH

North East down 38 to 57 v 81 (Lowest in England in many months - all but obliterated things here)

Yorkshire down 39 to 342 v 307 (Back to top as London fell a lot more today.

And, NORTH WEST down 40 to 238 v 228. (Yorkshire and London ahead of them - just - only now)

The falls in the north were almost identical today. But modest.

Perhaps if the change is moving northward then next week will see things stabilise.

Just out of interest I was on to 111 yesterday and a paramedic said to me this is so far from over as the vaccine won’t necessarily stop you getting it just stop you getting hospitalised. He said he would be amazed if we see football grounds full for a long time!
60% reduction in chance of getting it after one jab. 90% chance after both of them.

Glad you’re on the mend.

Greater Manchester Cases

144 cases today - down 13 on yesterday - under par for NW fall of 40 to 238 today.

This is UP for second day running week to week by 8 this time from 136.

Could do with a better day tomorrow though margins are small at these low numbers so not a problem to worry over.

Manchester top scores on just 23 - equal lowest in many months and down 26 on day and 16 week to week. A very good day for the city. Hopefully an omen for tomorrow. Drove the numbers down today almost on its own.

Bolton only 2 behind on 21 which is up 7 on the day but down 3 on last week.

Oldham up 5 on the day to 17 up just 1 on last week.

Rochdale up 6 to also be on 17 rises - which is up 4 week to week.

Stockport makes it 3 on the same score of 17 just 6 behind Manchester. This is up 10 on the day and 9 week to week. So not a good day here however you look at it. But overall Pop Score gap with Trafford stays at 183.

Trafford stays high on 15 - down 1 on the day but up 12 wk to wk.

Bury - stays on 10 - which is up 3 from last week

With three boroughs clocking up single figure numbers today:-

Tameside falls by 2 to be on 9 on the day which is also down 2 from last week.

Salford falls by 5 to just 8 which is down 3 from last wk.

AND:-

Wigan is top scorer again on just 7 - down 7 on the day but again actually up 3 wk to wk

Weekly cases:-

Bury 58, Tameside 76. Trafford 77, Wigan 80, Rochdale 81, Salford 85. Stockport 91. Oldham 91, Bolton 136, Manchester 273.
