I see your point but I think they can only guarantee 4 weeks is the end of the situation dies t worsen. Like I said, I would like to see some momentum maintained towards being opened up fully with flexibility for weddings so we continue to feel like we are going in the right direction
Agreed. Masks inside and table service but some flexibility.

If it doesn't happen in July..I'll be in full agreement with everything you've said..
The issue I have mate is that I think some of the SAGE lot and the science bods are waiting for "zero covid" - it's never going to happen. Sooner or later they have to learn to live with it and deal with variants, otherwise what was the point in the vaccination programme if we live forever with restrictions?

Are you sugesting that we should put up with this level of government just because you think the opposition would be worse. How can they be any worse than this shower. Mistake after mistake. these people need to be in jail.
If Labour had been in power we'd have gone with the EU vaccine crap fest. Possibly the biggest mistake of all.

Makes no difference whatsoever to my plans over the next 4 weeks, but gutted for those who’s businesses, weddings, life events etc will suffer. And another summer of no festivals for my kids.
Pretty much the same, as I can travel freely and go to pubs all over the country (probably best to stay clear of the coast this summer though).

Like my lad, I'd been looking forward to booking loads of standing gigs, and I've got an annual music festival (End of the Road near Salisbury) that looks in doubt given the festival insurance. No idea when I might get back to the Etihad as a Cityzen, either.

There'll be a lot of noise from pubs and restaurants that want to get rid of the Covid restrictions that both deter the older folk and reduce capacity (not that I've actually seen too many busy pubs apart from during the England match). That's who I feel most sorry for.

I have never voted labour in my life, but if their was a GE tomorrow i wouldnt hesitate to vote for them if it meant removing this shower from government. They have had their chance and they have repeatedly cocked it up. Their is no accountability whatsoever in this government. They just lie their way through. Im completely sick of it.

I was in Manchester last weekend. Table booked in a restaurant for 8.30, in town by 7 and wanted a couple of drinks first. Many pubs had free tables, but when we asked if we could sit at them, we were told No, they were booked for later. We said we only wanted one drink and would be less than half an hour. Just 2 of us. One pub was completely empty inside, but we were told they didn’t have the staff to serve inside! We ended up drinking at the bar of the restaurant.

My sympathies. The days when I could nip in a pub for a quick half between pints seem long gone. Table bookings and table service take the spontaneity out of socialising.

There's a lot of evidence of staff shortages in pubs in student cities just at the time pubs need more staff.

Yet the EU and US will likely overtake us in getting freedoms back. EU citizens can already travel around and double jabbed US citizens have no restrictions. The ‘world beating vaccine rollout’ will not look world beating when we don’t see the benefit of it and are left behind with industries shafted and job losses piling up.

Don’t be fooled by Kate Bingham doing a good job with the vaccines, those running the show are still incompetent wankers and will find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Cases are falling across nearly all of Europe and our are rising again.

All well and good people saying that it's only 4 more weeks but that 4 weeks takes in a hell of a lot of events and plans that are now ended. Purely from a sporting point of view there are all the fixtures at the Euros in England that could have had full attendance, Wimbledon, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone etc. And yes I am well aware that the 21st was never a completely confirmed date but these sort of events don't just happen. They take months of planning that organisations will have had to spend money doing and booking stuff for only to have it all cancelled again.

And you'll get that chance at the next general election. In the meantime, like them or not, they were elected fair and square and they can't just be kicked out tomorrow even if we wanted them to be.

we do seem to have lost synch with there waves. as ours were dropping in Feb/march theres started to rise, so as we were opening up they were shutting down.
They have very little Indian Variant. We just let ours into our country thru share government incompetence and people not bothering to isolate. as they should have.

Yep. Out Nov spike was Our variant. as we were dropping on that they were getting it. Now we are spiking on the Indian variant as they have got ours under control. they will probably spike again a month or 2.

if you think the UK has come out of this pandemic in any way shape or form better than most of our european neighbours you need to give your head a wobble. So many cock ups its untrue. I was prepared to cut them some slack and give them a chance but there is clearly is no end to their ineptitude, share bloody arrogance and utter contempt for how they hold the electorate of this country of ours.

Not having more excess deaths per capita than anyone else except for the US? Not putting India on the red list because Johnson wanted the glory of a visit to India which has put opening up in doubt?

Europe is now vaxxing at a faster rate than the UK, have kept their economies more open and will likely relax travel restrictions faster than the UK.

Our vaccine rollout has been excellent, but kind of wasted if we are still behind everyone else.

You are just lying now! We do not have the most excess deaths per 100,000. Far from it - check your facts

We were 10th in Europe per 100,000 population when this was published and falling on a weekly basis - not bad when you consider the population density of this country.

Second only to Malta in Europe for jabs given per 100 people.

To be honest you are just talking utter shit as per usual to suit your agenda. Thankfully i have not seen any of your ramblings for the last year but you are still as odd as ever and more importantly just spouting incorrect information.
