Fuuuuckkkk. My wife just got off the phone to her best friend in South Africa. She’s a teacher and caught covid (no real vax programme there) and gave it to her husband and two kids and their six year daughter has just been put into a coma to be intubated. Talk about a mood killer. My Mrs is more or less in tears.

I'm not suggesting 100% any theory mate, I'm just suggesting that something else may be happening, may be wrong, may be right.
We were told a few months ago get 2 jabs and freedom would come back ,now the narrative is being spun - AGAIN to oh well you may need a 3rd OR 4th jab. Boris said a few weeks ago no more lockdowns ever, today is again advocating / suggesting more winter lockdowns. They are fucking liars, plain and simple liars, Boris, Hancock, Gove.

We should have been opening up today and had complete freedom, ok we wait 4 weeks, the tone should be upbeat and positive from them, stop publishing figures, stop listening to SAGE. Get the country back and running yet again it's all negative from them despite the brilliant vaccine roll out. If we can't press the button now to all the months of shit we've had then when the fuck can we?
I don't get it.

A few months ago we didn't know about the delta variant.

I'm no fan of the Government, but they laid out a plan based on data, not dates as they said. One of the ways we would open up again was if there wasn't any new variants of concern. Clearly, given what's happened in India and the fact it has spread so quickly here it was of concern. They wanted more time to assess whether this variant could cause a wave like we saw in January. I'm sure no one wants to see hospitals filled with corona cases as it means that routine operations and A&E would also be hugely affected.

I know you don't want to give SAGE, Whitty, Valence etc any credit whatsoever, but without them we'd be in a vastly worse position. Faced with an unprecedented virus that was capable of killing hundreds of thousands, filling hospitals they came up with a plan to get us through this. They also were responsible for the superb manner in which the Government bought the vaccines early. They are due a huge thank you from the country.

I genuinely wonder why on earth you think these highly educated, highly experienced people are useless? Do you really think they are - hand on heart - doing this to get their names in the paper? Believe me, there names will go down in history as the medical leaders who led this country through the pandemic. You should be thankful they were in guiding us through it using science.

No Government on earth could say there will not be another lockdown. It's possible due to evolution that the virus evolves in such a way that it can evade vaccination. There might be a wave in winter, there might not be - we simply don't know.

It is entirely possible that if we'd had all restrictions lifted today - as you want - then cases will explode. The vaccination gives good protection for most people, but with an explosion in social interactions, the virus will find those who aren't protected. There's a chance hospitalisations will increase again.

I can only think it’s people venting their frustration.

Its quite clear that we’ve extended “freedom“ day back 4 weeks to get control on the delta surge and get 15 million more jabs in people.

Then we look at how the delta variant has been suppressed and if numbers are manageable, we open up.

We then monitor the data to see how well vaccines actually reduce transmission when enough people have had it.

Foreign travel, I guess will be linked to percentage of people vaccinated in each country along with number of reported active cases.

Then we see what the winter brings.

I bumped into one on Friday too, a fellow Blue based down here. He was talking absolute gibberish, claiming that 'they' are injecting us with 'different DNA' and it will make us all ill in the medium term and that only they will have the drugs to make us better, so we will have to pay to take them for the rest of our lives. He was so wound up about it. I didn't even engage in a debate about it. Just gave an excuse that I needed to get off.

He's a typical conspiracy theorist in that he lives on his own, is single, has plenty of time on his time hands, smokes weed (in his 40s), no friends and has low esteem. He certainly has mental health issues.

I also didn't engage with the dipper, couldn't wait until to get away.

Were fucked mate, it's never going to end .Think lots of people are now drawing that conclusion.
Life pre covid is never returning sadly, I think intermittent lockdowns and draconian controls will become normality for the world forever. More variants and other shit will appear. People won't be able to travel, go to sports games, concerts etc.
The slightest hint of new variants and the govt will go in panic mode. Is something else happening now beyond Covid is the big question?

This wave is going to well undershoot the "optimistic" modeling predictions made 3
weeks ago and published 2 weeks ago..
Here are the figures for protection angainst severe illness as given as
LSHTM%/Imperial% -> Actual%

Protection against hospitalisation:
PZ 1 dose = 85%/76% -> 94%
PZ 2 doses = 90%/90% -> 96%
AZ 1 dose = 85%/78% -> 71% (better than modelling against infection and death)
AZ 2 doses = 90%/87% -> 92%

Infection and deaths are just as bad.
You just can't believe the modelling these institutions do.
