As I understand it, those who are vaccinated who still catch Covid (vaccination isn't 100% effective, remember) are 50% less infectious than someone who catches Covid and hasn't been vaccinated. So, the vaccination both reduces your chances of catching it and reduces your chances of passing it on even if you do catch it. Taking into account all of his caveats etc.

This should help reduce the speed of tranmission and reduce the size of the third wave.
 
It's worth noting that transability is probably rocketing due to England Euro games - everyone i know is household mixing and going different houses for each game , have a packed stadium doesn't even compare to the millions currently doing this
 
It will never be possible to keep these variants out. Even the darking of the zero covid brigade Australia has the Indian variant - it's simply unrealistic to suggest it is possible to keep them out and the quicker people accept this the better. It's always more constructive to deal with the real world than a fanstasy land. Variants will never, ever stop and the flu vaccine is literally the best guess at each year's dominant variants.

good news, they won’t mention it in the press conference later though.
by 5pm it will be special Delta Force has been established to investigate the killer mutant delta plus plus plus variant .

Sorry to be all sensible and that; Delta usually describes a change from something or a relationship to another. Fuck knows why they called it the delta variant, I always thought delta, by its nature, is a variant

10 days covers about 98% of people. so there are still 2% who can develop symptoms after 10 days.

plus this could have been doing the rounds for weeks and is only slowly building. we probably only checked after India released the genome sequence yesterday.
 
Self isolation; undoubtedly been discussed in this thread before but what the actual fuck.

Daughter gets a message to self isolate because she has been in a restaurant with someone who has subsequently tested positive. We on the other hand, despite living in the same household, are free to run through the streets naked if we so chose. If daughter tests positive then we self isolate but by them we have infected half the street. Bonkers.

its the greek alphabet rather than mathematical terms.. I think they chose them based on the level of prevalence at the time of naming, Kent was the biggest in the world so go alpha, South Africa got Beta, India got Delta.

Even if he had stopped flights from India, people were flying to Turkey from India and then into the UK. What should be in place is not where you flew from but where your journey started from. That said do you really think everyone who has been in India and landed in the UK has quarantined these past few months. If you want to file damages against Boris can I file damages against everyone who has not worn a mask when they should have or who has ignored the law on mixing households etc.

Yeah its mental.

we just finished a self isolation due to seeing some friends and there child got the positive a day later.

but, the Dad got symptoms this week ( 8 days later ). Yet, even tho he has symptoms the rest of the family are OK to stop isolating after the original 10 days?? makes zero sense to me.
 
Corona Check App should be amended in the EU next week to facilitate travel. Individual can currently use it to show they have tested negative, but next week they’ll be able to use a QR code in the App to signal they are fully vaccinated (two weeks after vaccination).

you could but Jonny from wythenshawe who refuses to wear a mask when going the bog in the pub probably doesn’t have as deep a pockets as the UK government

We told you earlier about concerns over plans to host up to 60,000 football fans at Wembley for the Euro 2020 final and semi-finals.

But a professor of psychology believes Covid is more likely to be spreading among people watching the football at home, than in the stadiums.

"Interestingly I think the major problem with the football is not people at the matches, it's people at home not taking precautions there," says Stephen Reicher, professor of psychology at St Andrews.

"I saw data from Scotland yesterday showing that whereas two or three weeks ago the ratio of men and women who get infections was roughly the same, now it is about three times higher for younger men.

"The obvious explanation for that is people meeting up at home forgetting restrictions and infecting each other," Prof Reicher tells BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

"The point is that 60,000 people at the match sends a message to 60 million: if they can go meet together - then why can't we? If they are jumping up and down and hugging when a goal is scored then why can't we?"
