The Good News

Patients FELL today by 89 to 5911 from 6000.

Last Tuesday patients ROSE by 8 from 5429 to 5437.

REGIONS:

Patients in today - up / down v yesterday V last week

LONDON 1178 - down 21 V 1074

MIDLANDS 1199 - down 10 V 1052

NE & YORKSHIRE 1131 - down 4 V 1090

AND

NORTH WEST 922 - down 15 V 849

So all large regions down day to day but UP week to week

The North West is UP 73 week to week. The least but still up.

I'm near certain they don't!

And if they do, we should know about it. No reason to be secretive, quite the opposite.
They do, its called surging now rather than from the end of October when things will be far far worse if restrictions are brought in now.
Valance, Whitty and much of SAGE were up for this for this reason.
BTW, cases are also so much lower than predictions based on any model that was produced in early July.
Oh and It is mostly spreading in invaccinated 15-24 year olds too. Good news for lowering the spread of infections later in the year.

Patients on ventilators today - up / down v yesterday V last week

AND

NORTH WEST 107 - UP 8 V 114

Needless to say not a good day in NW but at least still down week to week

I was just about to write the same, we have been open for five weeks now whereas both Scotland and Wales didn't open till earlier this month.
This may be the reason - the Antibody survey shows up more rssisistance in the at risk groups in England than Wales & Scotland https://www.sciencemediacentre.org/...-antibody-data-from-the-ons-infection-survey/
Goodness knows why this should be the case - especially as Scotland had worse care home outbreaks per capita than England. Perhaps England had it more badly at home.

i dont see how we can get to 500 deaths a day

Increase at the rate Scotland currently is for just two weeks will do it.

We were lead to believe the vaccines were the way out of this.

Maybe by UK government spin, but the vaccines, even against delta, are if anything better than what was originally seen as the target efficacy.

Most epidemiologists have been cautioning a long road from the very start.

Vaccines not being a perfect silver bullet don't mean they're not making a huge difference.

Thoughts on the new monoclonal antibody treatment being rolled out to NHS patients ?

Five years is about standard for a global viral pandemic to run its course iirc, so we can assume we are some way around the midway point depending on how and when you personally believe it started. I expect the endstate will be covid is under control but remains with us as the killer of the old and sick like flu, pneumonia, MRSA have been.

The end of October when things will be far far worse if restrictions are brought in now.

That's only true if a large proportion of the susceptible are infected now. Rates aren't high enough to do that. You need a lot more.

(all subject to huge uncertainty)

i understand this, but like quite a few on here I duspect, i dont quite undertand how hospital numbers have increased so much when we have such a high proportion of the poulation vaccinated.

Where is the herd immunity that was being talked about, is this ever going to kick in. Seems like case numbers hospitalisations and deaths are just going to increase, albeit at a slower rate than before, regardless of how many get vaccinated.

Pls dont take this the wrong way, as I always have been and will continue to be a very strong advocate of vaccination.

Again, every time the data keeps coming in daily it keeps leading me to the possible scenario that restrictions will become a long term feature of life along with 1 to 2 possible annual lockdowns a year if the current data keeps its pace. The vaccines have reversed a lot of damage but seemingly by November it still won’t have been enough if hospital admissions keep rising. Fucking depressing. We’re in for the long fucking haul, what a fucking shit timeline this is.

Covid will be part of our lives for years. By the time we vaccinate the planet, the new, more virulent, and they always go that way, variants, will mean an endless cycle of new vaccines. Until we are all dead. True story.

I’m fully aware covid is apart of our lives now. What’s also looking likely is we are nowhere near to been truly on top of it and are in for more years of shit.

We are both singing from the same hymsheet. Our descent into a self inflicted end gathers pace by the year, nay, the month. Start stocking up on non perishables, you will thank me.

Covid is just a tickle, far worse coming down the line. It's going to get real messy
