Not that anyone should really need this prod. But if you aren’t yet, get vaccinated.
Exactly. I was double jabbed already and was offered my booster when I went for a flu jab yesterday.
So now triple jabbed and got slight soreness in both upper arms.

Just in time for the Christmas Markets.
I'm over in Germany for 6 days next month with the other half for the Christmas markets. We go every year (Covid lockdowns permitting), and this year we're doing 3 days in Hamburg and 3 in Hannover. Our experience of German Xmas markets is that while they can get busy, they're nowhere near as packed as Manchester's and nowhere near as hectic. One would hope that with the markets being mainly outdoors that there won't be a significant further rise in cases but obviously with all the extra mixing there will be a risk of that.

I think you are right there. Just listened to German radio and the cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz are going ahead with Karneval week in February

Got a mate who goes to Cologne for Karneval every year and he said the streets are rammed all over so that could be an even bigger potential for virus spread than the Xmas markets but the impression I'm getting is that Germany are at the stage of many other countries where they want to keep things open as much as possible going forward and the enforcement of things like Covid passes, etc, should assist in that. I saw a quote from the health minister about the unvaccinated being largely responsible for the spread during this wave which makes me think that they will try to keep everything open but if you're refusing to get vaccinated then you'll be excluded from all kinds of venues. I know that's being enforced in some regions already but not sure if it's across the whole country.

Given the pay and what they have to contend with in the job it's a miracle people actually do it, thank God they do. I'm not sure how they'll fill the shortfall.
The shortfall has little to do with covid vaccination , much more shit pay and brexit.

The Zoe App records ongoing symptomatic cases daily and daily new cases predicted from these.

Both have been falling for the past week after a period when both were still rising even when cases in the UK had started to fall in the daily reported Gov UK numbers.

Predicted new cases have fallen from around 94K to 75K yesterday. And predicted ongoing infections peaked at a point likely akin to the true number of people with Covid in the UK right now around a week ago after peaking at just over 1.25 million infected people it was down to 1.15 million yesterday,

North West has fallen by a lot and is down from the most infected region of the 12 in the UK to seventh yesterday.

More ZOE detail of the UK regions. the north west numbers and 10 GM boroughs are on the data thread daily.

Yes it is an app but I think it gives a best guess estimate of the ongoing cases in the UK at any time as they have spent a lot of effort refining the accuracy over the past year,
Healdplace, I've been so impressed by all the effort you have gone to in providing figures so regularly. I should have said thanks a long time ago.
The more information about infections, hospitalisations and deaths the better. I am one of the shielding group that the government has abandoned. I'm immunosuppressed and with pretty low protection (although hopefully better with a 3rd primary dose recently. My consultant tells me I need to continue to be really careful and people like me can only do that with the appropriate knowledge and information that helps us assess risk.
It's a difficult conundrum because it's nice to see people out enjoying and living life (like going to see City!) but at the same time society should also be thinking about those who are most vulnerable and their families. My wife and stepson can't live like they used to for fear of infecting me so one ends up with a feeling of guilt too.
Whilst I am a left leaning person and always have been I just cannot understand any rationale for not getting vaccinated nor wearing a mask and trying to get us to a time when some sort of herd immunity can be generated

yep i had the flu jab 3 weeks ago and the pfizer booster yesterday. funny enough this booster jab has hit me more than the both pfizer vaccines with pains down the arm and a warm feeling

Although I agree with the vaccine etc there is definitely something to be wary of, I’ve had mine but 3 lads I know all fit as fiddles and all in early 40s one had a TIA, one a heart attack, one blood clots on his lungs and they can’t find out why, all have had both doses, It is worrying to say the least.

I agree with this. I've had both doses so I'm not ant vacc but a fit woman I knew in her fifties died unexpectedly in Tenerife and a guy I used to work with who had no previous problems took Ill after a game of golf and died, he was 56. Both had had two jabs. I know they'll say for the majority of people they're fine and this outweighs the poor few who aren't but I wonder how big the problem is

I'm booked in for my booster tomorrow, but all along I've had doubts, reading a fair few reports of more 'problems' after the booster is forcing me to give it further consideration.

Edit: doubts as to whether I actually need the booster that is, I was fairly happy to get the first 2 jabs though.

It is a worry, my shoulder and arm were sore for months after the first jab, I filled in the yellow card. I'll probably bite the bullet and get the booster and hope for the best

I won’t get the booster unless it stops me travelling, I’m off to Vegas in March and think the Yanks are going insist on it unfortunately

I went for my booster at the Etihad yesterday, it looked like nobody other than staff were in the Covid-19 testing site, when i was going back to my car I asked a security guard is it normally this quite in the morning it was 10.30am, he said its been quite for weeks, good to see the Vaccine site was very busy

Yes, what makes it harder for me to decide, is the fact that I was exposed to the virus quite regularly (as many of us will have been) as I worked through all the lockdowns and a lot of staff (from all over the NW) were diagnosed with it, particularly just prior to Christmas. Early in the first lockdown my colleagues and I were very very careful, but with time and only one person having to go to hospital, so far, mask wearing and social distancing was very much reduced. I'm aware that one person going to hospital is clearly not to be dismissed, but he is back at work and fine now.

Nobody actually wears them at work now, as they get in the way and can be uncomfortable when working 12 hour shifts, I don't work in care by the way.

Where I work we have regular LFTs and I have never been diagnosed with it, though many have, this may be luck of course, but it is a little odd.

Further information, both my unvaxxed daughters, both mums, have had it, eldest had what she described as similar to a very heavy flu and thought she was dying - the rest of her household, no symptoms and youngest had nothing more than a short period of lack of taste and smell, her partner had the same, but came back negative each and every PCR test. (3 in total)

In short, I'm wondering whether I'm naturally immune and that taking a vaccine that may prove unecessary is a potential risk that could be avoided.
