Coronavirus (2022) thread

Double jabbed and boosted. Tested positive on Monday 27th and was testing positive as late as yesterday so did my full 10 days isolation, despite only having a few days of at best, a slight cough and generally feeling a bit run down. Negative lat flow today. Had worse colds tbh.

Do wonder if an outcome of this pandemic might be some form of ‘national social service‘ for young people in the coming years, which would see them work for a year in the NHS and social care more generally. It could help in alleviating a backlog that will take years to clear, raise health awareness issues in society earlier, thus preventing them later, and go some way to repairing the bonds of social cohesion that appear to have come unstuck.
How old are you out of interest? Not being funny but usually people who post stuff like this (On facebook though, to be fair) tend to be too young to have done national service themselves but want others to do it.

A straightforward lie, as we can see by your refusal to provide any evidence.

He said this:

'He said: 'I think there has been a certain amount of commentary about the fact that doctors and scientists from South Africa... have indicated that there may be some reduction in the hospitalisation rates they are seeing with Omicron. I want to put a really serious caution on this because I think it has been overinterpreted.' - which it wasn't.

As we know these scientists never say anything is definite, so interpret that as you wish.

Shows the value of being triple jabbed.

He just ignored all the evidence that pointed to the UK as likely to have similar levels of immunity as SA. And then they went to predict worse case numbers in the next SAGE paper. The death predictions luckily just haven't been backed up so far, but they did the same back in September. He's got a job to do and fundamentally that is to save lives, and because of this i believe he very risk adverse, which is understandable. The issue with that approach is it seemingly ignores all the other consequences of restrictions, health and economy wise. As much as I loathe Johnson he has to make bigger much more important judgements than Whitty and SAGE that take everything into account.

Under no interpretation is that "completely dismissing" the data, as was falsely claimed.

Whitty's caution on overinterpretation was entirely rational.

Would you ever really expect him to say he is completely dismissing it? He has pretty much said that in the most diplomatic way possible, surely even you can see that.

As you're aware of all of this evidence, it will be trivial for you to post a link to it.

I look forward to it.
No links but I don't think its outrageous to suggest that our immunity levels are similar to those in SA. Whereas they have had a greater percentage of the population previously infected with Covid, we have a greater percentage who are fully vaccinated. Between the UK and SA, we have very good levels of immunity and this is clear to see in the data from both countries in terms of the number of Omicron cases translating to hospitalisations and deaths compared to previous waves.
