Coronavirus (2022) thread

37% of people in hospital with Covid aren't being treated primarily for Covid.

This is obviously great news considering the super high cases but obviously doesn't make much difference when we talk about bed space and the fact they need to be isolated from non Covid patients.

This could be something controversial and I'm mentioning it purely for discussion but what's stopping us from genetically engineering a variant that is less severe but transmissible enough to replace Omicron? The Wuhan lab where COVID may of originated from was performing research into this kind of thing and specifically with Coronaviruses.

It's extremely dangerous of course and would never happen but interesting nevertheless.
They actually posited something very similair to this a few years before COVID 19. The idea was to send something dominant but inert out to circulate in wildlife, thereby protecting humans from dangerous variants making the leap.

You and your anti vaxx bull shit on different threads being proven wrong.

You’d think after 2/3 you’d reflect and change your mind.
Care to quote a post of mine that is critical of the vaccine?

Your suggestion is akin - but IMO even worse - than the suggestion that the solution to nuclear waste is to load waste into rockets and then launch them into the sun.

Why the analogy? - because a zillion things might go wrong with launching relatively unreliable rockets towards the sun (a not negligible percentage of which will explode on the launch pad or even worse in the upper atmosphere creating a problem far worse than the original problem of disposing of nuclear waste).

In similar vein - fiddle with genetics and release some sort of engineered virus - what could go wrong?

England hospital deaths are showing a notable spike over the past few days. So not likely Chrstmas lag in reporting now.

Numbers are at a level last seen at the tail end of the wave last February. Multiple days now in the past week with totals over 100. After none in two months.

Full details on the data thread if you want to check it out. We need to watch these carefully as they might be from pre Omicron given deaths usually lag the most. So they could even fall in coming weeks if Omicron proves less dangerous even in the older patients who are mostly dying in a pattern little changed acrss the pandemic whatever the variant. These have up to now not been at huigh numbers but Omicton is reaching them now in increasing numbers driven over the Christmas break as familes mixed so that is about to be tested.

But if it does not so easily reach the lungs Omircron might be different and be less dangerous to older patients than was Delta just as it seemingly has been to younger ones. We can hope.

My brother has had it again, thats twice, greedy **** that he is, as has his partner. My youngest brother has it now too, as has my son, all 3 of my lads have had it too. So far, we have avoided it in the Magicpole Mansion. Me missing it has probably been achieved as I have locked myself in a cupboard for 16 months. I think my partner putting a lock on it, preventing me coming out, even if I wanted to, shows how much she loves and values me. I feel blessed. Cramped, but blessed.
Now if she'd just take your laptop (and any other internet capable devices) away as well,........... ;-)
