Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

We'll soon see whether the scientists have got their sums right, this weekend has seen mass parties throughout the UK, no social distancing being observed and the police absolutely powerless to prevent it. Discarded barbecues setting light to the moors, nitrous cannisters littering the land and protest marches against events in the USA being allowed in Manchester and London. Are we going to kick the pants out of it, too fucking right we are.
It will be interesting to see one way or the other, who gives a shit. The future of this country just showed how responsible they are, nobody will bat an eyelid if half a million turnout at Pierhead, they'll say it lifted our spirits

So SKY Sports, BT, and the BBC are going to broadcast artificial noise from supporters taken from FIFA 20. I have never heard such utter nonsense and claptrap, in all my life. This will just make it whole lot worse. Why because they can't they see that those watching will realise that the background noise is all fake. How can an empty stadium generate an atmosphere.

Even now those on the sage panel are saying that the lockdown should still be on and that their should be no sports what so ever. I wonder what the government is going to do once football fans start to gather outside the stadiums to cheer their players into the ground. I wouldn't like to be the police trying to tell a few thousands fans to move on. I can foresee a lot of problems especially at those games schedule for the weekend. I hope that that doesn't happen but will I be surprised by if it does no I wouldn't.

I'm sure they'd CGI the crowd if they could.
Except for City of course, where they'd have scattered people and mainly empty seats ;)

Lol, whats the betting that generic crowd noises are used for all but......clanfield,where the cameras pan round an empty stadium prematch, while ynwa blasts forth from your tv.....to lift your spirits.Well I will NOT be subscribing to that, sky tv etc have bought football outright now, and the only way to get it back is by not being part of their income stream.

All I am saying is that I watched both those Dortmund games, thought they were very good, high quality matches.
The Dortmund , Bayern game, was also high intensity. Two different styles, tactics implemented to stop each other being dominant.
Of course if you think they are shit you do not continue to watch, I understand that.
Yep, everyone is allowed a different opinion. I can't believe i will enjoy the games but there's no point just going into it with negativity, if it's enjoyable then great. The missus might go mental though, with the amount of football from around the world that will be on tv again, one game after another :D

I can just see that whether it be Sky Sports or BT, when it comes to it being our game being shown. If the generate their own crowd noise, that they will make it look like there is more noise coming from the Liverpool end then any City can make.

Does it really matter that much??

It's a bit of green grass with no supporters, pitch doesn't slope in any particular direction and the goals will be regulation size.

I don't give a toss about the rest of the games being played - it's simply to ensure

1) the bestest team ever to have graced a football pitch will finally won a PL (puke)

2) The PL and it's teams won't have to fork back as much money to the broadcasters

Disgraceful

I'd say it does matter, if we had played Liverpool away at a neutral venue with no crowd then Oliver and his VAR buddies may have referee'd the game according to the Laws of the Game rather than what would upset their followers the least, it would have been nice to have had that kind of support for our home game against them even though we wouldn't have been given the kind of decisions they've been getting all season.

It also makes a difference as although the goals are a regulation size and pitches are nominally flat the dimensions of the playing surface can be different. Teams that play open expansive football have pitches that tend to be at the maximum allowable width whereas teams that like to pack the midfield and defence play with pitches that tend to be narrower. It all makes a difference so hopefully our 'home' games will be at a stadium with pitch dimensions that favour our style of play rather than our oppositions.

The rest of your post I completely agree with though.
