Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Yeah i don't think you should hold out for that ! God only knows how the football landscape will be,it is inevitable clubs will go out of business along with others from all sectors
A certain 8 clubs didn’t think about that when they voted against us recently, and their new 7 friends haven’t flocked to help Burnley

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has warned against re-starting football too early amid the coronavirus pandemic, telling FIFA's 211 member associations on Friday that such behaviour would be irresponsible.

Soccer around the world has come to a standstill with domestic leagues on hold and major tournaments such as Euro 2020 and the Copa America postponed for one year.

"Our first priority, our principle, the one we will use for our competitions and encourage everyone to follow is that health comes first," Infantino said in a statement on Friday which FIFA said was specially aimed at its members.

"I cannot stress this enough. No match, no competition, no league is worth risking a single human life. Everyone in the world should have this very clear in their mind."

Meanwhile, discussions are being held around the world over when and how to re-start the season while in some countries there are disagreements over whether players should face pay cuts.

"It would be more than irresponsible to force competitions to resume if things are not 100 per cent safe," Infantino said.

"If we have to wait a little longer we must do so. It’s better to wait a little bit longer than to take any risks."

Infantino reiterated that FIFA was assessing the financial impact of the stoppage so it could prepare the right response.

"You have to know that we will be there and we will find solutions together," he said. "You will never be alone… (and) the world will know where the money goes and, equally important, why the money goes there.

"If football manages to have a discussion where everyone contributes positively, and keeps in mind the global interest over the individual one, I am convinced our future can be better than our past, and we will be better prepared for the times ahead," Infantino added.

hallefuckinlujah

Infantino seems like a decent guy, always comes across well.

What do UEFA, the FA and the Prem know about Coronavirus that the finest medical minds on the planet don't ? How on earth can they make plans for anything ? Infantino is the only one talking sense. The season is finished because football has zero importance right now.

I get what your saying, but that would only work for a few clubs. What about the clubs who don’t have billionaire owners???

it would just be a free for all of clubs only caring about themselves and the clubs with billionaires surviving. What about all the teams below the premier league ?

even if that did happen how would that be sustainable going forward? With no tv money and no gate receipts.

maybe it is time that football was brought back to reality and for instance wages and transfer fees dramatically reduced.
Last time I looked, 15 or 16 Prem clubs have billionaire owners. Palace have two multibillionaire financial backers.

Who in regard to FIFA or UEFA have the final say so with regard to football starting again?
Cant see UEFA taking direction from FIFA

But surely if FIFA say in advisory terms 'Football should not restart because of the progression etc of Coronavirus', then only a complete arsehole is going to say to the world 'We are going to restart footy in this country anyway'. If UEFA/the FA/the Prem defy FIFA and expert medical opinion and someone or several people involved in footy then contract Coronavirus and, God forbid, dies, then someone has blood on their hands. Which of the top of the food chain arseholes would want to go down in history as contributing to, or risking, avoidable deaths ?

Sorry i was thinking prem clubs as it was a brighton related thing,he is very rich so he has a neck on him,i don't really know about the teams below to comment really, how about the limit is set to what the owner who can put the least in in every league? So nobody can pick their own number, Don't know how you would work it out mind you
So that would be a vote for £0 from Mr Levy then?

And ]possible criminal charges

if they finish this season behind closed doors I will be totally fucked off with it. We got home games against both Arsenal and LFC, these are now played on a level playing field with no City fans, LFC could be setting new records that could never be broken under these circumstances. Totally unfair and totally loses integrity
