Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

if they finish this season behind closed doors I will be totally fucked off with it. We got home games against both Arsenal and LFC, these are now played on a level playing field with no City fans, LFC could be setting new records that could never be broken under these circumstances. Totally unfair and totally loses integrity
im sure what will happen if the FA are to hard faced and greedy and continue with their crackpot ideas, one team will pull out off any proposed games and then a load will, there will certainly be no fans at any games until probably late 2021 due to the 2m distance rule applying, this will be with us until the virus is eradicated,,so its realy not about this season being finished we'l be lucky to start the following season, someone with some brains needs to come out and call it null and void and leve next season pending

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has warned against re-starting football too early amid the coronavirus pandemic, telling FIFA's 211 member associations on Friday that such behaviour would be irresponsible.

Soccer around the world has come to a standstill with domestic leagues on hold and major tournaments such as Euro 2020 and the Copa America postponed for one year.

"Our first priority, our principle, the one we will use for our competitions and encourage everyone to follow is that health comes first," Infantino said in a statement on Friday which FIFA said was specially aimed at its members.

"I cannot stress this enough. No match, no competition, no league is worth risking a single human life. Everyone in the world should have this very clear in their mind."

Meanwhile, discussions are being held around the world over when and how to re-start the season while in some countries there are disagreements over whether players should face pay cuts.

"It would be more than irresponsible to force competitions to resume if things are not 100 per cent safe," Infantino said.

"If we have to wait a little longer we must do so. It’s better to wait a little bit longer than to take any risks."

Infantino reiterated that FIFA was assessing the financial impact of the stoppage so it could prepare the right response.

"You have to know that we will be there and we will find solutions together," he said. "You will never be alone… (and) the world will know where the money goes and, equally important, why the money goes there.

"If football manages to have a discussion where everyone contributes positively, and keeps in mind the global interest over the individual one, I am convinced our future can be better than our past, and we will be better prepared for the times ahead," Infantino added.

hallefuckinlujah

With 2.5 years until the world cup where FIFA make all their money, it is easy to see why he has a different perspective to the EFL for example which could lose clubs.

Football is never 100% safe virus or not, and wen Foe died the statement about football being risky from FIFA is opposite to the above.

I don't think it can ever be 100% safe for fans travelling on dangerous roads or or footballers heading themselves into an early grave.

But surely if FIFA say in advisory terms 'Football should not restart because of the progression etc of Coronavirus', then only a complete arsehole is going to say to the world 'We are going to restart footy in this country anyway'. If UEFA/the FA/the Prem defy FIFA and expert medical opinion and someone or several people involved in footy then contract Coronavirus and, God forbid, dies, then someone has blood on their hands. Which of the top of the food chain arseholes would want to go down in history as contributing to, or risking, avoidable deaths ?
Yes I agree, it appears to me that FIFA appears to have a different stance that UEFA

Agreed, but FA/UEFA/Prem league as you say are arseholes. Could they defy FIFA and do their own thing?

I wonder which birdbrain in the press has come up with the idea of testing players before games.
Forget people in this country who need urgent checks, NHS staff really need to be tested and the many thousands around the world, let's test premier league players.

The depths these ****s in the press are sinking to is disgusting.

Just read that one ( at least ) premier league player says that remaining games should possibly be played without fans. He follows this up by saying that way the fans can watch it been televised.
Does he really think that the television companies between them can show every game so keeping us all happy?
Does he think they will do this without charging us, cos I don’t think that in a month of Sundays.
Also as one of thousands of us don’t have Sky, BT or Amazon, because we actually go to the games involving our respective clubs, do these companies really think we are all going to take on contracts to watch the football?
Rant over

They have the capacity to how every game in the PL and EPL. Also the ifollow is £10 a match for EFL so more than the cost of some teams season tickets prorata and a limited service, and the money goes to the team you buy it off rather than the home team so it is inherently unfair. If the PL was on a streaming site it could still be no extra most people so no one watches EFL and lower league clubs who find it very expensive to stage matches will be knackered. The lifting of the 3pm blackout suggests they may be hoping to show the lot, whether fantasy or otherwise.

Some bright spark suggested that we would have ‘free’ access to the games as we have seasoncards.
Which leads to the conclusion a televised game would cost about £30-£50 depending on where you sit.

Personally i don’t think it’s worth £50 from my seat in the lounge/

PL players SHOULD BE way down the pecking order to be tested. There are far more important individuals that need to be done prior to those prima donnas.
The dipper loving wankathon rolls on, the media are determined to get the season finished at all costs, even to life, it’s embarrassing.

If that's what they do, that's me finished, putting a game of football before lives.
Someone wants to get a grip of these people and give them a good slap. I mean a good slap.
