Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Premier League clubs are still discussing the possibility of awarding Liverpool the title and abandoning relegation, although the vast majority want the season to finish due to the legal and financial problems if it does not. [

Translation: They haven’t earned it but it’s better than us catching this crap and harming us or our families.

So realistically they can not be sure that any player is free from the virus when a game is played.
Unless you have an immediate result from the test this will always be the case even if the result is 100% guaranteed. Infection can always take place between test and result . In theory the best you can do is test the player as he walks onto the pitch. Substitutions might take a couple of minutes longer as the assistant manager holds up the number board and the lino checks his studs.
Surprised the debate has gone on as long as it has. The idiot protests in America against the lockdown will ensure the virus has a wealth of transmitters for some time. Go Freedom! Meanwhile over here we have the weekly gathering /clapping parties pushing the boundaries of social distancing . We really are a fucked up world.
I may start writing a film script , post apocalyptic survivor, that has a dog and a grandchild for company and lives amongst the wreckage. It will be entitled
I am a fucking Legend
Scene 1 Old man and young boy watching final minutes of a football game, Man City vs QPR , Dzeko has just pulled one back , old man has tears in his eyes, he has seen this tape a thousand times

"Tell me Grandad, how did you survive the great plague? and who were Liverpool? " I just sat on my arse and watched TV and didn't go near anyone. Liverpool were football team that never won a Premier League title, they were the team behind the destruction and death of all clubs in the UK , they thought it meant more.

"OW" was my shout, I've just been woke up by a kick in the ribs off a couple of security guys here on Wembley way, have I got this wrong or am I dreaming, need to know cos these Norwich fans who've just turned up are saying they're gonna beat us again???

Has anyone posted on here yet the view of a panel of experts assembled by the New York Times which says that mass gatherings such as at sporting events will be the last to be permitted. Their view is that such gatherings cannot really happen until after mass vaccination. They estimate autumn 2021 before they should take place. On that basis of course we can kiss goodbye to the 2020/21 season.

Some people are saying they’ll pack in if anything is played behind closed doors but won’t if they just cancel the season.

Such a bizarre opinion to have.

Not really B-J.
The undying fight to try and get this season “completed” while THOUSANDS continue to die from a virus that is mainly spread by close contact or being in the vicinity of an infected person, and is STILL spreading, just goes to show how little the paying fans are thought about. They don’t give a fcuk. They want their billions in sponsorship, back handers and dodgy gambling decisions.
I am 1 of those who won’t be going anywhere near a football stadium or any gathering of large numbers of people until this virus is under control. The insensitivity and greed of those who run the PL is plain for all to see. As for rolling out all those past players saying it should be completed, we all know where their loyalties lie.

I hope those saying they’re “done with football” aren’t turning their backs on the club during a period when they need our support more than ever, to defeat the authorities that are against us?

There’s nothing more that Utd and Liverpool want more than the fans to abandon the club to let them win.

Think about that for a second.

Football is a habit and once that habit is broken it will be hard to get it going again for some people I.e money, reevaluating priorities etc and given we are unlikely to be in a football ground for 12 I can see attendances across the board being low

in addition to that, the way some of the clubs and players have behaved during this time(either perceived or actual) will leave a bad taste in the mouth of some fans

And when going in for a tackle must stop 2 meters apart and toss a coin to see who gets the ball.
Or let the VAR wallah spend a couple of minutes before deciding who wins the tackle in favour of the darling teams in red. They are already well practiced at this and getting the 'desired result'.
I do hope the match referee is not the one to determine the 2m social distance. We know how their pacing out of 10 yards at free kicks varies wildly in both number and length of strides to suit the favoured teams whether defending or attacking but to assist as much as possible in the Holy Grail.
