Corrupt Officiating Within the English game

The vast majority of referees that I have heard comment on the introduction of video technology have been fairly vocal in their reservations and most don't want it. I wonder why that is when most other sports have embraced technology. Could it be that it would be a lot harder for them to give utterly unfathomable decisions, decisions that would be immediately overturned, making it much more difficult to have a real influence on the outcome of results?

I think this is actually partly true. We'd certainly benefit from it as much as any other side.

I'm laughing at some of the posts saying "there's no corruption". FFS, "Fergie time", a phrase that literally explains an unfair amount of time in which United are allowed to rescue the result of a match, was mentioned in nearly every match. It's all bent to hell, we've had 3 stonewall penalties not given in the past month.

The day Mancini lost the title (granted bringing Lescott on as a striker, and having two left backs didn't help)

‘Oh, he knows, he knows. He knows that’s inside the box but he doesn’t want to give it.’ – Gary Neville in co-commentary during Everton – Manchester City.

Terry admits East told him how long injury time they were going to play but not tell the Everton captain.

A fuck up at best that....

I saw something to that effect. I don't think the ref has any duty to inform players, but can tell them if he's asked. If Terry was geeing up his team and saying "4 minutes left, lads, not done yet", then he may have responded.

I don't really see a problem with this - Everton must have known that the wild celebrations would cause more time to be added.

Aye.

They celebrated like the rags do when the score a goal against us.

The most obvious prophylactic measure is to make gambling on football unlawful.

Only those wilfully blind to the weaknesses inherent in a nature common to all can deny it.
Wouldn't that take gambling further underground and thus have an adverse effect on your plan ?

We know that athletics is corrupt from top to bottom and large scale drug-taking has been covered up. We know that drug-taking in cycling was endemic and was covered up. We know that football in even places like Italy is totally corrupt. There's evidence that football in Spain is corrupt, with decisions being given in favour of Real Madrid & Barcelona. There has been proven match-fixing involving referees in Germany, although not in the top division.

In Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia, corruption is endemic, involving bookies, referees, players and other officials. Apparently even our 3-2 win in Munich a few seasons ago was investigated by Interpol on suspicion of match-fixing, which put Pellegrini's assertion that he didn't realise we'd win the group if we scored another goal into an entirely different light. Referees have been quietly moved out out the front-line in the PL a couple of times. We told Riley that Mason would not be acceptable to referee our games in the first PL winning season and Riley stood him down. Why would he do that unless we had good reason to insist?

There's so much money involved both in terms of broadcast revenues and gambling that it's incredibly naive to declare there is no corruption. There is but people would prefer not to see it.

Today sees Tennis, even grand slam winners and the money they earn under the spotlight for match fixing.

Its rife.

Indeed.

How much is Murray bribed to act miserable because in real life Kim Sears wouldn't let him hang out the back of her otherwise.

pmsl. The issue with fixing is the obscure bets rather that a win/lose etc although they are affected. Its the £5000 on 2 red card in the 90 mins or the 3 no balls in an over etc and until bets of that nature are fucked off, it will go on. Of course the huge money is in the far east so what can be done I've no idea, probably nothing but its an issue and it isnt going to go away.

If the rags didn't win anything for lets say 10 years and the tv audiences around the world dwindled because of it and revenues and deals where seriously hit, you can bet your bottom dollar they would be virtually given the title.

its all bent im that convinced.
