nothing will ever convince me this one at spurs was anything but bent.
There is absolutely no defence for the lino there. There's no excuse for missing it, and funnily enough it changed the whole complexion of the game

exactly. we were behind the other goal and could see it was offside. couldn't believe they allowed play to go on. it give them a lift like no other, they knew the ref was in their corner, and so it showed.
we should be asking for an explaination for this. at least make them embarrassed about their cheating because it is cheating no matter how you dress it up.

We know that athletics is corrupt from top to bottom and large scale drug-taking has been covered up. We know that drug-taking in cycling was endemic and was covered up. We know that football in even places like Italy is totally corrupt. There's evidence that football in Spain is corrupt, with decisions being given in favour of Real Madrid & Barcelona. There has been proven match-fixing involving referees in Germany, although not in the top division.

In Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia, corruption is endemic, involving bookies, referees, players and other officials. Apparently even our 3-2 win in Munich a few seasons ago was investigated by Interpol on suspicion of match-fixing, which put Pellegrini's assertion that he didn't realise we'd win the group if we scored another goal into an entirely different light. Referees have been quietly moved out out the front-line in the PL a couple of times. We told Riley that Mason would not be acceptable to referee our games in the first PL winning season and Riley stood him down. Why would he do that unless we had good reason to insist?

There's so much money involved both in terms of broadcast revenues and gambling that it's incredibly naive to declare there is no corruption. There is but people would prefer not to see it.
Absolutely 100% bang on PB. It is without doubt corrupt.

Personally I think that the referees and linesmen do need some sort of help.

They are in a profession where they can never do right. I've seen pundits and managers criticise linesmen for getting an offside decision correct because it was so close. Also, football fans are so biased that referees will always be scrutinised and slagged off. A large amount of fans are unable to see things objectively and it is apparent on this forum as it will be on every other football forum in the world. You only have to look at the penalty United got against Sheff Utd the other week where Depay was fouled. Some people were saying it was never a penalty despite it being a clear foul. In many ways it was similar to the penalty Kun should have had against Leicester which everyone was saying was a stonewaller.

At times fans want consistency rather than the correct decision which put referees in a tricky position from the offset. For example, say the referee mistakenly turns down a penalty for one team but then goes on to rightly award the other team a penalty, he is going to get slated a lot more than if he made two mistakes and gave no penalties. Being consistently shit is better than making a mistake in some cases.

In my opinion, we need to have the right balance between video assistance and keeping the flow of the game. I think the ref and each linesman should have an earpiece which is connected to a fifth official/video ref. If the linesman is not sure about an offside then he can simply let play continue, ask the video official and show a late flag. If a goal is scored in the process then it is simply disallowed. If not they play can continue.

Likewise for penalty decisions. If a referee is not sure then simply ask. It would take a minimum of 15 seconds to come to the right conclusion and if you have to analyse a foul from 50 different angles to come to an answer then it isn't a clear cut penalty. Remember, refs need to be 100% to give it. Also, quite a lot of times the ball will quickly go out of play after a penalty appeal so that would even impact the game.

I agree. That's why i think most refs would rather give nothing. But that foul by Stones was an unbelievable decision.

Work for offsides, don't see the point with free kicks, penalty kicks as you are still relying on a man/woman making a judgement call.
