Corruption in English football?

Early 1900’s Liverpool vs United fixed match, City paying over & above for players wages, the Arsenal scandal......there’s always been corruption in football & there always will be.

Anyone in denial......nowt as blind as those who will not see.
There has always been corruption in football and always will be. The only issue for me is how widespread it is. There are certainly some corrupt individuals in the game but I have never believed there has been a widespread conspiracy across the whole sport.
Ferguson for example was a bully with lots of very powerful friends. If referees upset him their career could be impacted negatively. He exploited this situation. This a form of corruption but is a long way short of people getting brown envelopes of cash.

Well I was embarrassed that he was embarrassed now that you say he will be embarrassed for being embarrassed ergh I must admit I am lost :-)
The thing is most posters are not saying everything is scripted and therefore bent. I do not believe that the PL decide who us going to win it each year, that us going to far but ask me if the Rags were helped under Project Restart to make sure they got into the Champs League, definately. Have they been helped so far this season, again yes and the reason is that with them at or near the top more money is made by the suits.
I think I’m embarrassed now ;)

Some corruption in the English game is actually well documented & doesn’t always take place on the pitch.

The FFP timeline proves corruption in the English game. If people can’t see that the power brokers of European Football (G14) took a good idea about reducing debt & turned it into FFP, as documented from Platini initially talking about regulations; to Platini admitting the G14 forced him to change those rules; then I don’t know what else to say to such people. This is a perfect example of corruption & considering 4 of those G14 clubs are English, it’s actually laughable that some believe there is no corruption in the English game.

Can anyone tell me of a former United or Liverpool Chief Exec having influence & power at UEFA?

Lots of on pitch stuff also well documented from Bruce Grobbelaar admitting on tape he fixed matches to Claus Lundekvam from Soton who said in 2012 that he, his teammates and opposing captains had constantly manipulated certain aspects of matches “almost every week”. He stated that “We could make deals with the opposing captain about, for example, betting on the first throw, the first corner, who started with the ball, a yellow card or a penalty. Those were the sorts of thing we had influence over.”

Example after example of corruption for over 100 years has been listed in this thread, not just hearsay, but actual facts, actual proven cases, actual live recordings of players admitting to corruption

However, Corruption? What corruption? Move along, nothing to see here. Maybe the poster who was embarrassed works for the FA & wants to keep a lid on it ‘for the good of the game?’

Another great example of documented corruption in the English game

A lot of people confusing corruption with bias.
Ergh no. If someone in charge, be it a referee or a Uefa/premier league official is biased and as a result awards or refuses to award the correct decision because of that bias they are acting corruptly. You do not have to accept a brown envelope stuffed with twenties to be corupt. If a referee shows bias to the Rags he is punishing other teams, that is corrupt.

Just one? How about I give you 2 pretty recent ones?

Fat Sam? Ref (can’t remember which one) changing his statement from I saw it, to I didn’t see it on the advice of his bosses so they could retrospectively ban a player?

Both bonafide examples of corruption.

Didn’t have to wait long did you?
I've seen this example regularly repeated, I suppose it depends on your definition of corruption but to me thats not corruption. Zidane got sent off in the world cup final on the say so of the 4th official who seen the replay on the big screen. They weren't allowed to use technology to influence decisions so technically they made a corrupt decision to get the right outcome. In the example you quoted above the ref has said he has seen it when clearly he hasn't because of he had he would have sent him off. You can think you seen something, you can be absolutely certain of it but sometimes the eyes play tricks with you and you're just wrong. Changing the report to punish a player that should be punished is not right but neither is that player getting away with it because the ref made 2 mistakes.

I have a question for the corruption deniers.
Can you tell me one professional sporting organisation that would allow some one to officiate at the highest level even thought they are not physically fit ? (a key requirement for his role)
Further the same person is incompetent in how he undertakes his officiating and finally after being presented with a dossier regarding his (corrupt) officiating, still employ him AND put him in charge of a match concerning that team ?

I bet you cannot name one sport where someone like the fat fuck that did our game today would be allowed to be in charge.

Hell that takes me back, I watched them every Saturday they were on, I thought it was real. Mind you I even thought the wrestling was great even though Big Daddy had gone to school with my Granddad, the fact that my granddad was about 58 didnt seem to click with me.

Mind you if we carry on with this rag/dip love in, (it's on again this weekend you know, the BBC told me that the rivalry continues) I think we will be moving ever closer to wrestling/Garlem Globetrotters.

Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome our very own Meadowlark Lemon....... Brunooooooo Fernadez.
