Jeez this is some bump.

If you get an answer out of him, let me know. He owes me a pint.A lot of football fans seem to think that Zidane was untouchable . And while he did look untouchable for France at times. I remember often when he came up against Roy Keane for Man United or Ireland Keane dominated him . As good as keane was i couldn't see handling maradonna, messi, cryuff , ronaldinho, etc.
He had a suspect temperament and mentality . So if you knew how to play against him like keane did you could limit his influence .
Another thing that is never acknowledged about zidane is that he wasn't nearly as effective at club level .
And i find it maddening to think that his admirers have up there with Maradonna, messi , pele , cryuff etc.
I would say that Zidane was undoubtedly one of the best players of his generation . On a par with figo, rivaldo etc.
As far Gazza . Well zidane had the better career . I think even after his career changing injury with Tottenham . Gazza went to serie a and when he was fit and played he often ran games for Lazio . And remember this was when serie a was the best league in the world . He also ran games for England at times and this is after his injury.
Surely staying on the straight and narrow, respecting your body, respecting your contact, making the most of yourself, is central to being a great footballer.I think Gazza was a better player but couldn't stay on the straight and narrow long enough to prove it.
I'd agree had I not witnessed Diego Armando Maradona.Surely staying on the straight and narrow, respecting your body, respecting your contact, making the most of yourself, is central to being a great footballer.
That’s fair comment l, but the exception that proves the rule - and I reckon he’d struggle to nail the gear and play at the top level today.I'd agree had I not witnessed Diego Armando Maradona.
I don't know, Ferguson knows how to handle a personality. We've all heard of the party Sharpe had, and Taggart going round to sort it right out. I think Gazza would have had his head sorted out by Ferguson, and without the temptations London has to offer. Still would never have been as good as Zidane though.
'Simpleton', not heard that for years!
