Could this Season's "Failure" be Attributable to Bad Luck?

I knew it was all the fault of that black cat and ladder.........

Cabaye: Manchester City does not play as a team
Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye believes Manchester City 's lack of cohesion has cost them the Premier League title.
Roberto Mancini's side have seen the defense of their crown all but ended already, with Manchester United boasting a 15-point lead at the summit.
And, ahead of the Magpies' meeting with City, the27-year-old has claimed that it is because the Etihad Stadium side's "fantastic" players do not work well enough as unit.
"United are a machine. Sir Alex is doing a fantastic job for the club," he told The Sun. “Even when the players change, he knows whichplayer is going to be good for his team. City have fantastic players but, unfortunately for them, they don’t think and play as a team — it’s not the same as United. So maybe that’s the difference. City are still a fantastic team, butthey are a team of individuals."
Cabaye came up against Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets during the international break, asFrance suffered a 1-0 loss to Spain. And the Frenchman is keen to do battle with another impressive foe on Saturday in the form of Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure .
"Every time, it’s the best feeling for me when we play against the best players in the world. OnWednesday, it was Spain and on Saturday, it’s going to be Yaya Toure . He is the best in the Premier League," he said.
He added, “Toure is the best because he can defend, he can score, he can play up offensively and defensively. He’s the complete midfielder and he deserves to be where he is. Kun Aguero, David Silva, Carlos Tevez and many more are allfantastic players. I don’t want to say their starsare less good than Yaya Toure but when Yaya misses a game — like at Everton — they lost.
“It’s going to be totally different than the Spain midfield but it’s going to be tough as well, we will have a big, big job to do to stop City.”

Next season mcfc should have a team bonding summer camp or something^^

There's no such thing as luck. It's as made up as destiny, magic or fate.

David Silva: "last year we had that little bit of luck at the right times, this year we haven't."

As far as I'm concerned, this means he's read this thread and agrees with my original premise.

And that he'd like to go for a beer with me and talk about football. He'll probably bring Zaba and Komps with him as well.

I'll take a ball in case they want to go for a kick about afterwards.

Tarder you workt he luckier you get. Quite frakly the team hasn't worked hard enough. Mancini feels some of the players rested on their lorals a bit and thought it would be easy this year. He sees these guys every day so for him to say that it must have some truth to it. Certain players had steller years last season and haven't been able to replicate it. We didn't improve the team in the summer and if you aren't getting better you are getting worse. Mentally we haven't been there this year. Haven't had the intensity we had last year. We were dreadful on set pieces the first half of the year and 90% of that was due to a lack of concentration and just flat out desire. Injuries to our key players has played a role along with Yaya/Kolo leaving for ACON, but this is something that happens and the team should be able to cope. But when you don't have the desire and the team isn't improved and key players miss games you aren't going to win league titles. For some reason the players as a whole just haven't wanted it as much as last year and mancini wasn't able to motivate them to do so.

Two reasons we have not succeeded this year - poor defending at critical times and poor finishing at other critical times. No other reasons need apply! Oh, and with the exception of His Holiness The Dean of St. Michael's, we've been screwed by every fucking ref who ever drew breath to blow a whistle!

I don't think we have been good enough. We have lacked the ruthlessness that united possess. I think we have been fairly unlucky with injuries but that is no excuse. United have been the better team this season and deserve the title.

Hard to argue with that ....

even though , so far , we've supplied the Premierships meanest defence , the rags have won more games , scored more goals , and have 12 more points than us , so we have to say that they have been the better side over the 31 games played this season ..... and that's highly unlikely to change as the season draws to a close.

luck has played it's part a bit I think. I think United have won at least 4 games ( 1-0 vs. West Ham, 3-2 vs. City, 1-0 vs. Reading and 1-0 vs. Sunderland) through deflected goals. In terms of refereeing decisions, two games that come to mind for that are their 2-1 win over Liverpool and 3-2 win over Chelsea where they were very fortunate with the ref giving some questionable red cards, questionable pen and offside goal. They also had RVP's incredible form in the first half of the season that really propelled them to get some good momentum.

On the other hand, we have had players injured all the time (although they dealt with that last year) and players have struggled for consistent form. There also hasn't been the same desire from the players this season.

Overall, some things have gone United's way this season but they have put in the greater effort this season and made better moves in the summer. Although, the change in mood on here seems to suggest it ain't all over just yet...
