Could we be playing in the Community Shield after all?

It’s starting to turn into a bigger trophy than the ‘league’ cup - the last French ‘league’ cup was played yesterday (PSG on penalties), England becomes the last major European nation with a ‘league’ cup.

The ‘league’ cup is what I grew up with, and then waited awhile for the next trophy... so it remains special to me.

Charity/community cup... bit meh, but it’s another one for the collection, though I don’t get fired up about it as much as any other game (cup final, cup rounds or PL).

What's happened to the "integrity of the game" we heard so much about when the scouse ****s were desperate to re-start the league?
Haha, simple - no money to be made from the charity shield. Can you imagine if we even dared to play a couple of youth players in it we'd be disrespecting the game/ruining football. Ifwecouldjust turn down the chance to play now well get more shit than Liverpool who should actually be playing in it.

I eagerly await the rest of the league writing a letter to the authorities about how the scouse ****s should now be banned from football for eternity.

Why on earth would City agree to play in it when our season might not finish until anything up to a month after Liverpool have been on the beach?
Tell them to get fucked

Interesting to hear that Klopp treats it as a major final. Funny all the dippers saying it was a meaningless friendly when they lost in it to us

I was about to say the likes of Klopp and Pep are uber competitive and will take every single trophy seriously. I remember reading about how intensely focused Pep was before a club world cup final with Barca or Bayern; essentially a mid season friendly in Qatar.

And then I remembered Klopp playing a bunch of toddlers in this season's cup games.

Not sure there really is any suggestion we’d be involved in it. But if there is we should be giving it a wide berth

We’re gonna have hardly any pre season time off as it is

I was at the 1972 CS match vs Aston Villa at Villa Park.
I cannot remember the final score but I can remember it was pandemonium outside after the game finished. Skirmishes and running battle everywhere.

City won 1-0. Then lost 1-0 at home to Burnley the following year. Then it was switched to Wembley to make it more attractive to the League and FA Cup winners.
