Could we learn from another sport regarding atmosphere?

Clearly the sport with the most over enthusiastic crowd is darts? Therefore it seems pretty clear that our players need more exciting nicknames, the ground itself needs to be converted into a giant pub and we need the stadium announcer to really get a lot more involved. Also pumping loud obnoxious music all the time for the drunks to "sing" along to would obviously be a plus

Just curious about this "great Maine Road atmosphere" i hear people talking about during these atmosphere debates, yes it was very good at times when the Kippax was still a terrace, yes it did have its moments after it became all seater (notably Millwall at home, when there were no away fans to "bounce off", Norwich under KK and the last ever derby at the hallowed turf, but there were as many quiet games there as there have been at Eastlands - Etihad, and we have shown that when we are "up for it" like the Hamburg game and some of the derbies (especially the first) then we can still create a great atmosphere in our current home.
Safe standing will improve the atmosphere in that groups of like minded people can stand together, but capo's and drums? No thanks.

Just need that "na na na na naaaaaaa" song played when we get the ball and we can chant "oi, oi, oi" in the wrong places. Add in fancy dress and kaboooom...

The constant whooooing and lifting the no 1 finger is so annoying to watch and listen to and typically occurs in American sports. I would probably turn to another sport if that ever became the norm in the premier league.

Jack wilshere just got banned for doing that.

The best way to get a better atmosphere would be to bring back standing and lower ticket prices to the same price in real terms that they were 25 years ago.

Stadiums today are full of affluent, older people and you are never going to get much of an atmosphere from them.

I don't think we'd get away with that pal, In 1989-90 the shite charged £3.50 & Liverpool £4 (considered expensive) match day price for standing. Using an inflation calculator this works out at £7.35 and £8.43 at 2013 prices.

A season ticket on the Kippax in 1977-78 was £11, that's £57.98 today when adjusted for inflation, or 52p -> £2.76 per game (21 matches instead of 19)

So, in real terms, you could get to see City for the whole season in 1977-78 for the price of a home match day ticket against Arsenal this season.

I agree with what you are saying though, £15 - £20 for standing is what I would consider reasonable and achieveable.

I have never been to an NFL game but do watch it on the tele. I must say the crowds always look much more reserved than football crowds. Maybe a few whoops and cheers every now and then but nothing on the scale that you would get for a big derby match or what ever.

NFL games really aren't as loud as they seem. TV networks have been caught playing a crowd noise track to make it seem more exciting.

No need for lessons off NFL or any shit like that.

We need Rail Seating.
Away fans fucked off with the South Stand converted to a full safe standing area and singing section... I'm in 111 and would happily move there.

This is the solution. Standing, joined together with South stand and cheaper tickets :-D
