Could You Live Without A Car?

I didn't know your circumstances.
Sorry for any upset I may have caused.
Take care.
Dont worry its not caused any upset mate.

Its just that life can be much more complicated for a whole variety of reasons which means that doing the right thing can often be much more challenging. I've spent an arm and a leg getting solar with battery storage, i've gone for an electric car which is by no means perfect but better than ICE vehicles, at least at the point of emission which is the bit I can influence.

Thankfully I can afford to make that change, but many can't. Subsidising and incentivising green solutions for those on lower incomes would be by far the best option, which would force business to maybe reassess their priorities, rather than paying lip service to green issues.

Additionally increasing tax on flights under 400 miles which could be done via train would also help, if you used it to offset rail cost. Its insane that you can fly from London to Glasgow for a quarter of the price of the same rail journey.

No.

The idea of paying £40-£50 in taxi fees or spending hours on a bus every day is a total no go.

No, no and no.

How would I go fishing, for example, with a load of gear? How would Lady Baconface and I get between two locations 50 miles apart with luggage and dogs? How would I go camping, again with all the kit?

However, I do zero air miles and am very conscious of environmental issues.

Took 12 lessons when I was about 27, but then gave it up. Mainly because I couldn't be arsed.
Never missed not having a car, and love going on the tram into Manchester etc.
I'd guess if you have had a car etc then you'd miss it.

I'm 54 years old now.
Been working since I was 18.
Not one of those jobs could I have met the contracted hours without a car.
Pay me £2,000 a month after deductions, index linked to rise annually by the RPI rate of inflation (Not being fobbed off by CPI) for sitting at home reading and watching YouTube blogs and I will gladly give up the car.
