Coventry City Fans

Used to be a great away trip to Highfield Rd. There was a big boozer that would put on free food about a mile away from the ground.

As for the missing 16k....probably rags anyway.

Weird bunch us city fans. All the riches and talent we have and we can still find time to knock a third levels teams fans, who have spent a year traveling 30 odd miles to watch home games.

I know mate what a stupid reason to hate a set of fans. Particularly as 11,000 still bother to turn up even after all the turmoil the club has gone through. They are the real fans so how could you possibly hate them.

I wonder if other forums are slagging city fans off in 1999 because we sold 40,000 tickets for the play off final but only averaged 28,000

Its not city fans though. Its one individuals opinion. And I live about 10 miles from Coventry and whilst yes it is a complete shithole, there is no accent to be heard.

The 'Away' pub was a big boozer called the Mercers Arms which was right next to the ground. Used to be rocking in there

Could have been us in that situation. Ray Ranson was being backed by SISU when he was trying to take City over I seem to recall. As it now turns out, the plan was essentially for SISU to bankrupt the owners of the Ricoh Arena and take it over themselves at a knock-down price.

What if we'd been forced to play our "home" games at somewhere like Elland Road?

One of my first away games was the 1-0 win 1991-92 season when Quiny scored and made his debut, also went the year we were 2-0 down (Mick Quinn) and won 3-2 down and got drenched.

No issue with the club or its fans.

Edgeley Park would have been more apposite, surely.

Away fans used to stand in the open end behind the goal. But then when this stand was developed we were moved into the seats opposite the main stand

Always remember the drainage in the toilets was knackered and to make a visit you had to wade through ankle deep piss every time

Didn't like them as a kid because every time I saw them play us they beat us and steve ogrizovic was a ****. Now, fair play to their fans I think if we were in the same position which could have occurred thanks to shittywater we'd have done the same. Glad they are "home".
